Vintage Doctor's Bag with Sterilizer and medical instruments
This is a unusual doctor's bag. I have been doing antiques for 40+ years and never seen one with the sterilizer made into the the bag itself. The top half of the bag has a pocket the length of the bag for storage, it has three loops on both end of the top for medicine bottles or for holding items in place. The bottom half of the bag has a copper(on the outside but another type of metal on the inside) sterilizer box with a tray with handles on each end of the tray and wholes in the bottom. The sterilizer box slides in the the bag on one end of the bag and has two metal snaps that close the sterilizer box into place. There is a thick partition that separates the top and bottom of the bag for each comparment, I am not sure of the material of the partition. There is leather wear, please look close at the pictures, also there in wear on the ... morehandles. However it closes ever well at both opening top and bottom. It appears that the flap of the sterilizer opening had been repaired before, but was done quite well. Imprinted on the top of the bag in gold letters is the"Paul Gray, M.D. Contents of Bag: 3 round bottles with metal screw caps, three different bottle that appear to be medicine bottle with corks,White Cross absorbent cotton box with brown paper rolled up and cotton inside, missing one end of box but flaps are there) Johnson& Johnson Red Cross Cotton with blue paper and cotton rolled inside. end of box missing but flaps are intact) Blue Cross metal tape container, no tape. Reel-Ola gauze bandage never opened 1" x 10 yds, A bottle of Mercurochrome, which appears never to been opened but there is no liquid inside only a dark red residue at the bottom of the bottle.There is a metal box that measures 4" x 6" with a tray inside that lifts out that has a place with five(5) needles with sheaths on them and two needles without sheaths on them, there is a hypodermic needle and plunger but( the glass is broken and part of the glass is missing) and one(1) stethoscope. A nice collection of 18th century reproduction medical/surgical tools from G. Gedney Godwin. Sutler of Mt. Misery. Includes: ball forceps, capital/amputation knife, cautery, double retractor, trephine, capital/amputation saw with spanner, small and large incision knives, fleam set, tourniquet. Johnson’s division listed 1269 wounded. Burials were recorded on the site. The Daniel Lady Farm played an important role in the three-day battle of Gettysburg. The farm was occupied by Southern forces on July 1. 1863, and served as a Confederate staging area for the remainder of the battle. In addition, the farm served as a hospital for the wounded. Antique Medical Instruments c1915 German KNY-Scheerer Laryngoscopy, Syringe Set
This is an antique medical instrument set for direct laryngoscopy. Bronchoscopy, and esophogoscopy that was inherited. There is also a syringe set in a metal case. I don't know the history of the items. I found an old catalog online(see images in photos above) And based on that and my research I would date this set to be from around 1915. The case in aged on the outside. But is fully functional, including the hinges, clasps, and handle. There is a lock, but I don't have the key. I don't know if there are any pieces to the set missing; it appears to be nearly complete based on the catalog listing.

THANKS! This amazing medical kit was purchased at an estate sale. The insides contain a Cystoscope. I have taken the following information from the web: Brown-Buerger cystoscope from 1910. This instrument was created by Leo Buerger(1879-1943) A young urologist in New York, who based his design on one by Tilden Brown. The instrument was then produced by the Wappler Electric Company(later ACMI, today Gyrus/ACMI) The Brown-Buerger cystoscope remained the workhorse of the American urologist for nearly 6 decades. It was easy to use, enabled catheterization of the ureters, and provided an excellent image. Virtually every urologist owned 1 or 2 of these ... moreinstruments. The insturment has many markings by the eye piece. The eye piece is not chipped or broken. There is a sliding drawer which holds 1 small piece that goes with this. I think there is supposed to be tubing. That is not with this. The box is also very nice. Note the picture showing that this is held together with wood wedges not screws. It has a long hinge on the back. The box shows wear. But is still very sturdy. I will pad this well for shipment. And it will ship fully insured. Insurance; I don't know what to do about insurance for items purchased over seas. I'm finding out that I can not buy insurance to cover the purchase cost and the shipping cost for many countries. I do not want to stop selling overseas. So please. Contact me first to see if your item can be insured before purchase.
