Vintage Brass Candle Holder Oblong Bowl Bell Snuffer Scissors Snuffer
This is a vintage brass candle holder with two snuffers. It is an oblong bowl with a candle holder in the middle and two different snuffers. One on either side of the candle holder. There is a bell shaped snuffer and a scissors style snuffer. The brass has a nice old age patina to it. I did not polish the pieces as I did not want to polish this patina off. The oblong bowl measures 6" long and just over 3 1/2" across the top. All of the pieces are in nice condition with no dents, dings or notable scratches. Payment is expected within 5 days. One metal thimble sized 9, and scissors marked"GILCO, Germany. B rass metal tube is darkened a bit and contains dozen or so needles inside. Believe the 8 spools of thread are cotton and marked"Germany. Two little metal round tins close tightly and marked"Germany" But I'm not sure what they were used for and if they even belong to the original group. The mirror is cracked. And interior velvet is stained and musty smelling. I think the case is paper mache and it does show wear, hinges and clasps are attached and still work. ENT surgery instrument--"Grasping Scissors" for removal of uvula.
This sale is for a specialized pair of scissor which have jaws to allow cutting plus grasping and holding what has been cut. They are described in an 1887 Tiemann's Catalog as uvulectomy scissors. I suppose the idea is to prevent"losing" the specimen down the throat after it is cut from the palate. The scissors appear to be nickel plated and do show some tarnish but no pitting. They are 8 inches long and open and close smoothly. As far as cutting is concerned. They cut paper smoothly. I will insure for purchase price and generally ship in 24 hours of payment. Silscis3 Ornate Sheathed Antique Sterling Silver Scissors English* Circa 1840 These wonderfully ornate sterling silver(tested) handled embroidery scissors and their sterling sheath are at least 170 years old. The shanks are modeled with grape clusters and vines. Snakes go around the bows and grapes decorate the sheath. They were made in England in the early 19th century. Probably by Joseph Taylor of Birmingham. English silversmiths didn't mark small items(and have to pay duty on them) until required to by law in the early 1880s. They have tight blades. Sharp points and cut beautifully. There is no rust and t he silver on the scissors is also in excellent condition with no dents. Splits or repairs. The sheath is a nice snug fit on the scissors. Offering as is a Pair of 5 1/4" Antique Scissors ca 1900. These were made in Germany by Krusius Bros. for the Broadway Department Stores near the turn of the century. They were originally gold and silver plated over steel and you can still see tiny traces of that on this pair. The tips are nicked but they cut paper nicely: The Washington and Lincoln Presidents bust images and Dont Worry.Watch Us Grow is difficult to see due to oxidation and age.

Marked & Dated Henry Sears & Son 1865 Made in Prussia Specialty Scissors 4 1/2"
This is a pair of marked"HENRY SEARS& SON 1865" and on the opposite side"MADE IN PRUSSIA" Scissors. They measure just a little over 4 1/2" long and are some sort of specialty scissors with a rectangle opening in the blade centers, possibly for cutting an oil lamp flat wick? and has very sharp pointed blade ends. I almost cut myself cleaning these up a little bit. These do have some overall discoloration, darkening of the steel and some darker damage on the handles and outside of the blades where they look like they were trying to rust. These open and close freely and the inside of the blades are surprisingly clean for being almost 150 years old. 18th 19th C Colonial Antique Wrought Iron Scissors Shears Signed
10" Long 3 1/4" Wide An almost identical example can be seen referenced on page 309 of George Nuemann's book"Early American Antique Country Furnishings" fig 1364) Nice example of a high quality pair of blacksmith made shears likely dating circa 1750-1780. Scissor shears such as this were used for a variety of functions such as to cut various articles of cloth. But also could have been used in leather work as well. As you can see they were expertly crafted with the smith working pieces of straight iron into large finger loops. Note the early center rivet and thick blades. Some slight pitting from age.
