Dr. Baxter’s Mandrake Bitters LABELED and w/ original Cork!!
Up for auction is a Dr. Baxter's Mandrake bitters. Embossed and labeled. Bottle has probably 85% of the original wrap-around label in a very readable condition. A couple missing spots clearly shown in the photos. I would say 1880's or so from the bottle manufacturing techniques. Early mold and base style with hand applied top. Single tit on center of bottom base. Glass color looks to be a greenish aqua. Embossed vertically on 5 separate panels kind of opposite the paper label is" DR BAXTERS" MANDRAKE BITTERS" LORD BROS" PROPRIETORS" BURLINGTON. VT. Some of the word BURLINGTON is partially covered by the label. Note- the original mold that produced this bottle looks to have had a mistake in one of the letters- the second P in PRO P RIETORS looks like it was originally cut as the letter R but the slant was peened ... moreout to produce the letter P- which is a kinda NEAT bit of character. Overall height is just about 6-1/2 inches. Its 12 sided in shape. Bottle is in absolutely PERFECT condition. No damage at all. Label is old and weathered with a couple missing pieces but still in highly legible condition. Please see all photos as they are a very accurate representation of the condition. Insurance is required! It will be carefully packed ans shipped in enough bubble wrap to protect and egg!

Made of mould blown lightweight soda glass this stands nearly 8 ins(20 cm) high and 6½ ins(16.5 cm) in diameter. A lovely angular shape and beautiful deep amethyst colour. Pattern number 9601. DESCRIPTION: Absolutely stunningly coloured and scarce azure or ice blue globe vase from the world acclaimed Whitefriars factory of Wealdstone. North London. In colours of an exquisite bejewelled azure blue embellished with massed equidistant ranks of small studded controlled bubbles. Englands oldest glassworks began in 1720 whereby due to the simple fact that the land that it had owned for hundreds of years was actually worth more than the business. In 1980 sadly. It finally closed its doors. The factory started producing glass from the town of Whitefriars itself and moved to Wealdstone in 1923. In between years it wass bought by James Powell in 1834. Notable design artists include Alfred Fisher( 1967-68) William Wilson( 1952-62) and of course Geoffrey Baxter( 1954 to 61) to name but a few. I'm selling a couple of items of vintage pottery and glass and have split them into separate lots. This is one of the lots. A vintage Whitefriars glass vase. Known. I think, as a finger vase. The vase is cylindrical, has a bark textured surface, and is in a purple colour- not sure if this is know as Aubergine, Lilac or Indigo. I would guess the vase dates from the 1970s. As a guide, the object is approximately 5 and a half inches(14cm) high. The item is in nice clean condition. There are no chips or cracks.
