Christian Baxter Analytical Scale Model AB-2 with gold chain and silver weights
Up for bidding is a Christian Becker Chainomatic Analytical Scale Model AB-2 with full set of weights. Empty replacement chain box, booklet and brushes for cleaning. The cabinet is aluminum with a gray crinkled finish. The front and top glass are clear and there is white opal glass in the back door. As far as I can tell all the parts are here. The front door is weighted to stay open for hanging weights and item to be weighed. The back door is not as it's purpose is for access for repair and maintenance. Their is black glass as a base inside the cabinet which shows off any dust and dirt well. The rider weight is there for the knotched beam to adjust weight up to 1 gram by decigram increments without opening the case. There is a knob on the right side that allows you to pick up this weight and move it along the beam to another notch. The ... moregold chain is installed with stirrup attached. This allows you to use the chain dial and vernier scale for weight adjustments from.1 to 100 milligrams without opening the case. Pretty exciting scale for the 50's. It would weigh up to 201.1 grams with an accuracy to.1 milligrams. The pan dampers are there and operate to steady the pans when loading and unloading. The beam lift functions to take any pressure off of the knife edges when not in use. The spirit level is working and so are the adjustable feet. The magnetic vibration damper also moves in and out easily. There is a Drierite Balance Desiccator that sits inside of the housing that comes with it. All the weights(200.995 grams) are in the wooden box along with the tweezers and 2 spring weights. There are two brushes for cleaning. Probably not original. The empty replacement gold chain box is in excellent shape. I assume the chain was replaced and the box was kept. There is also a 32 page book titled: The Care and Use of Analytical Balances" from Christian Becker a Division of the Torsion Balance Company. For sale are two Baxter 6301 pumps for parts. They both have GE Biomed stickers to 6/12. They were both used for door parts to fix other pumps. I will note the condition of both pumps below. Pump 1 Missing pump 2 door assembly. Cord and cord cover. Both front and back case have no cracked corners. Color between front and back are slightly different so this has had repairs previously. WWII vintage BAXTER commando combat knife + sheath USA
This vintage knife is 10 3/8 inches long overall with a 5 7/8 inch carbon steel blade. The handle is made of brass with dark red composition grips. The knife comes with a leather sheath. This knife is used and has wear and some damage. The brass handle and sheath have nice patinas. The blade has lots of discoloration and pitting. The marking on the blade appears to say First Quality but is only partially visible. There is also a large K marked on one of the grips. The grips are intact but have shrunk with age. There are no other visible markings on the knife that I can see. But it does appear to be the same type of knife as in Silvey's WWII knife book on page 83. Attributed to Sydney R. Baxter of Boston. Despite its condition issues, still an decent example of a very scarce WWII era combat knife. Sold as-is. No returns.
