GE Victor Coolidge X-Ray Tube Protective Cover 1920's XRay
This is a protective metal tube housing manufactured by the General Electric Company for use in their XP line of X-Ray tubes. The circular GE logo is visible on the top of the ribbed(for cooling) aluminum sleeve in the center of the cover. On the opposite side of the sleeve is the logo of the Victor Company. It is my understanding that GE took over Victor in 1920 and pretty much abandoned the use of the Victor name by 1930 or so. The glass tube inside. A single focus XP-1, is broken but the cathode and Anode are intact along with the air cooled radiator. This came from the first X-ray equipment installed in Huntsville, Alabama. Great vintage piece by Westinghouse XRay Co. Made in Long Island City. NY. Not sure what year. Back says patents applied for. Seems to work? The dial turns and the alarm does ring. Seems to turn slow though- not sure if that's how it's suppose to be. Weighs about 1.5 lb. Measures 4.5" tall and 5.5" wide. Black paint has some chipping. The cover overall is clear and good shape. RARE ANTIQUE MAHOGANY HOSPITAL OR SURGEONS FLUOROSCOPE - BELLOWS XRAY VIEWER
Please see the pictures below the description You are bidding on an antique fluoroscope or X-ray viewer. As far as I can ascertain. This is a very early item in the field of X-rays, later ones having various forms of lead shielding. Little was understood in those days about the effects of X-rays or Röntgen rays- with the X-ray beam on, the physician would position themselves on the opposite side of the patient and view the image produced on the fluorescent screen of the fluoroscope. This resulted in the physician receiving a large dose of X-rays each time it was used. The image was viewed on the removeable screen that is located in a compartment in the end of the viewer, and is basically a wooden frame with a black card covering one side. On the inside of this card was a film of some sort, which I believe was coated with a layer of calcium ... moreor cadmium tungstate, this acting as a fluorescent screen. It is generally in very good condition for its age- all the mahogany is good with only a few marks, and the screen top opening flap is good, with good hinge and catch. The fabric bellows have a couple of very small holes on the corners and a small split on one of the folds. The bellows are dirty from storage- I have not attempted to clean them at all, but they should come up very nicely. One of the hinges on the side arms has a small brass woodscrew missing. All the brass fittings are good and original to the item. The removeable screen has a good frame, but the black card is damaged, and the fluorescent screen has only the edges remaining- it has become very brittle over the years. For display purposes, replacing the black card and making a replacement screen to look the part should be quite a simple task. A very interesting piece of medical and scientific history- I have managed to find a couple of pictures of later ones, which really came into being during World War I, but cannot find one like this made of wood. Almost never happens. Most books don't actually make it into a new bookstore in this condition. F- Fine. Sorta normal perfect. No flaws of any kind. No. Not even teeny ones. NF- Near Fine. Well. Ok, maybe real teeny flaws here. Like the gloss on the dust jacket is a bit off. VG- Very Good. Pretty darned nice. Might have one or two very small flaws. A bit of rubbing on the jacket. You are bidding on a hard to find Coolidge Victor xray tube. This peice of scientific history is in great shape. One end has a light socket type screw in. The other end has a black round piece screwed in to it. It is about 18" in total length and just over 4" in width. It is marked on the purple tinted ball part: 30 MA then under that a Coolidge Victor tube logo then the number 75538 marked under that. I have a kifaru gen 1 od X-ray w/un padded molle belt in great shape. It comes with the internal pouch as well. The belt fits my 33" waist with room to grow/shrink. This has been well cared for and is in perfect working order. I have used it mainly as a school bag but did travel overseas on a trip. It does show some basic wear but nothing that probably couldn't be washed off. I love this bag and as you know. Kifaru is one of the best gear companies out there.
