Wolf X-Ray Products Operating Fluoroscope(ca. 1930s) Up for auction is a super rare Flouroscope X-Ray Helmet from the early 1930s. This is the only one I've ever seen. It is made of wood with elastic straps which are adjustable. The visor opens and closes and it comes with 2 filters(red and blue) The stand is not included but gives you an idea about how to display helmet. According to an ebay member he informed me on the origin of this helmet: This is a x-ray helmet/flouroscopy with origins from the early 20th century. They were used in medicine to see inside a patient's body. The patient would stand in front of an x-ray tube. With the xray beam going through his body, while the doctor stood facing the patient. As the beam hit the contraption he had covering his eyes. The doctor would see an image of the inside of the patient's ... morebody. This particular fluoroscope was manufactured by the Wolf X-ray Products Inc. of New York City probably in the 1930s. Wolf X-ray Products. Which specializes in x-ray accessories, is still in business. With the beam on. The physician would position themselves on the opposite side of the patient x-ray tube and view the image produced on the fluorescent screen of the fluoroscope. Compared to generating images on x-ray film, the use of a fluoroscope resulted in higher doses to the patient and doctor(who would not otherwise be exposed to the direct beam) Because this unit was held on the head via straps. It permitted hands-free use- a decided advantage for a physician in the operating room. The screen on this example(approximately 6" x 8" consists of a layer of calcium or cadmium tungstate deposited on the inside of the glass plate that forms the broad end of the device. The body of the fluoroscope is covered with black leatherette and the viewing port is protected from stray light with a fur-like fabric. The most famous hospital in the world is now gone. During the past couple of weeks the place has been totally demolished. I had the extreme privilege of having access to this site and was able to obtain a few artifacts that are one of a kind and will never be found again. For sale is a Picker XRAY viewer cabinet. Made by Picker XRAY, from the oldest, innermost walls of the old military hospital. This viewer. No matter what happened in 1947 bore witness to those accounts. All individuals involved where at one point or another shared the same time and space as this item. What else crossed this viewer is up to ones imagination. But this XRAY room was directly off the Ambulance entrance. Included with the purchase a USB drive that has hundreds of photos that I have taken over the years. Pictures of the old base. Hospital, computer generated schematics ... moreshowing original hospital and layout, base housing and individuals involved are inlcuded. There are none of these left. None. This is the only one in existance in the world, IN THE WORLD! I am the only one to have such unfettered access. The rest are in the landfill. May consider international sale but will have to charge for shipping which may be quite a bit. In the last pictures you see other items from the hospital for sale. Bricks. Fireplug(damaged in demo) and all of the sconces hanging in the original hospital rooms. These are or will be up for sale.
