I was showing my work with Joanne Lyon Gallery in Aspen in the 1980's and was introduced to the glass work of Dale Chihuly and William Morris. I loved the color of Chihuly but I was awed by the work William ... moreMorris created. It was technically over the top. However, I didn't delve into glass until 2002. Then, I became obsessed with conquering the technique which was elusive until I gave in and took classes from knowledgeable teachers. Patty Gray, Richard la Londe and Michel Dupile to name a few. Design, composition and style were well developed for me. I've never had a problem with creative inspiration. My pieces range from smaller art tiles and bowls to large sculpture. I like the organic, lots of bubbles, very little cold working, layers that invite you in to wander around and make up stories. Pieces that don't have a designated spot in the environment but can be placed anywhere and enjoyed, inside or outside. Glass offers a different way of creating and a different way of enjoying than any other art medium. It involves complex composition, challenging design opportunities, unlimited possibilities. It only has rules that are applied to the technical side- but beyond that, the creative door is open. My artistic life has been rewarded by working with glass. Very Rare Handbells, This auction consists of 10 brass handbells made by the Mears Co. Which is known as Whitechapel Bell Foundry today. The Mears Family ran this business between 1781-1865. Seven of the bells have the Mears name and three may not(can't see the mears name) The leather straps have the Whitechapel logo. One of the leather straps needs to be replaced. All of the bells need to be cleaned. One of the bells is missing a leather piece that contacts the inner bell, its in the photos. I am not a musician or very knowledgeable about these items. I will describe each bell by their size, starting with the largest. 1) Bell has an A on the leather strap and a diameter of 5 3/16(2) Bell has an A and a# symbol on strap diameter is of 4 7/8. 3) Bell has a B on the leather strap and a diameter of 4 13/16. 4) Bell has a D on the leather ... morestrap and a diameter of 4 3/8. 5) Bell has a C on the leather strap and a diameter of 4 1/2. Some very light scratches on blade(very difficult to see) But otherwise in like new condition. Blade is O1 tool steel. Blade thickness is 5/32” and is convex ground and is sharp. Blade is lightly spalted on unground areas. Tapered tang(to balance the weight) The handle material is Bocata with thick(~1/16” black G10 liners and thin(~1/32” blue G10 liners. Five micarta pins and one bull’s-eye lanyard hole. The knife fits the Ray Mears sheath perfectly. And feels like it was made for it. The Woodlore knife and the Arete have the same handle circumference. I purchased the sheath directly from the Ray Mears website. Also includes a KSF Sharpshooter sheath. With a collectible bonus old Miller Beer racing team hat that I believe is from the 70's. These are very hard to find collectible hats. In good condition. There are no holes, rips or tears that I can see, plus the colors are nice and bright. The are not perfectly clean. There is some dirt on the inner hat band of the'89 hat that shows it was worn and on the brim edge. The'90 hat appears clean, and the Miller hat has a crease in the leather patterned red/orange card board brim. I have added a photo that I found on line of Rick Mears wearing the same style of hat. Description Here is a VERY HEAVY bronze antique bell complete with the iron clanger clapper.and it has a lovely ring to it as well. It has no name but I was emailed by a bell collector and he told me this is a bell by the WHITECHAPEL BELL FOUNDRY which belonged to the MEARS family. it does have the date 1820 near the top between the rings. the date is of old font.anyone into date styles will easy be able to see the 2 is the right period. and be assured this is a period bell and not a modern forgery crappy thing. its the real deal. The iron clapper is hand forged by the look of it.rusty ... moreof course as its been outside somewhere. It could be from a CHURCH- CHAPEL- SHIP- SCHOOL who knows.but it will work and would make a very nice architectural antique at your house or museum. It is 12 inch tall x 11inch base dia and the bronze is about 3/4- 1 inch deep.it weighs FAR TOO MUCH for me to weigh on my scales. its very heavy.it weighs 18 KILOS.
