Vintage 1953 Trig-O-Matic 15" Adjustable Self Closing Pipe Wrench Barn Find Who-hoo- went to my first auction of the summer- it was a farm estate auction literally right down the street from me. The former owners had lived there since he had gotten out of the military after enlisting during WWII. And her family had been on the property for generations before that. It’s all farm stuff- household, barn, outbuildings, property- many items from the 1800s and up. Lot of old iron, barn digs, primitives and pretties- I’m so excited to show them to you! Enjoy! Yup. I got this one standing at the barn hay rack- don't ask me if it works- I have no clue how to use it so do not know- I just thought it would make for some very cool rustic decor- maybe old tools on the outside of a shed? Or for a strong industrial look in an urban loft? It's ... moretelling me that is is a Trig-O-Matic, and that is is a 15" one at that. I don't know how they are measured, because end to end, the wrench measures 17 1/4" and it weighs a hefy 5 lbs. The patent number tells me that it was patented in 1953, and the title on the patent is the same as the name in my header. The"c" shaped top of the wrench(sorry, for lack of a better description) rotates on the round pin that you see- up or down, and it appears to have some type of spring action, as after you've pushed it to open it more, it will go right back into place. It appears to be in excellent solid and sturdy condition- nothing appears to be amiss. It is marked Alloy, so I'm assuming it's steel- if not, iron- a magnet sticks to it. One side says that it was made by the Trig-O-Matic Tool Corp in Chicago. It has a layer of surface rust pretty much all over- it's surface only, and a fair amount of barn grime, dirt and cobwebs(that the white mark on the handle that you see) I have not cleaned it in any way. It has 6 spray jets. 2 that are adjustable and 4 that are stationary. The adjustable nozzles move freely. Made of solid brass and stainless steel screws. It weighs well over 3 pounds. Standard 3/4 inch threaded fitting. The threads are in good shape. I have left it with the same patina that it had when I acquired it.
