This is a antique small parts storage and cleaning can. It has a flat plate-shaped insert that is the same diameter as the inside of the can. It is spring loaded and moves down when you push on it. Submersing any parts into whatever cleaning solution you are using. It measures about 10.5 inches in diameter(handle to handle) and is about 7 inches tall(to the top of the top handle) It is in good solid condition and would be both useful on your bench and a cool addition to your collection. It is yellow and marked"Valve Section" and"Section 218" I bought it with a bunch of old railroad lanterns and other railroad related parts, so I think it might have been owned by a railroad. Vintage Protectoseal Chicago Il Gas Can Oil Can Storage 5 Gallon Steel Metal
Found this in South East Kentucky in a shed about a 1/2 mile from the farm house. It is a metal 5 gallon can made by Proectoseal in Chicago Il. The home sat empty for 5 years and was not farmed for 4 years before that. Not sure how much older the can is. It has a handle with metal flex spout. and cap to fill it with. I smell nothing inside it was empty when we got it. It is 18" tall with handle x 23" wide with spout 12" with out spout. Good for a display décor item or use it.
