Diary 1864 Noyes Teacher Slaves St Helena South Carolina
Diary 1864 Noyes Teacher Slaves St Helena South Carolina This is a wonderful and important 20 page handwritten diary from Catherine Noyes a young woman who went to South Carolina in 1864 to teach freed slaves. The first half of the diary is from 1864 in South Carolina and the second half is from 1866 when she was back home in Massachusetts. It is in very good condition with great content throughout. It says in part, Up at 4:30. Mary and I got breakfast as Dick had not appeared and started off for Tripp Point where we were take the steamer for Beaufort. It was warm and pleasant when we started out by the time we reached the point a cold wing had sprung up… William and Mr Folsom went to Beaufort this morning so Molly and I had the school. I am teaching them how doth the little and they can nearly say the first verse. I had Archy and Rufus come ... moreand stand before me with folded arms and say it. Rufus is a very sentimental looking child and she and she and Archy carried on a great flirtation…Hope Place was remarkably pleasant today and it was a real pleasure to teach them. They insisted the name of the island they lived on was the United States and that Boston was the capital of SC… I rode up to the nigger house and inquired if Mr Allen was there and they said he had been there and had gone. I thought it was very strange and perhaps they did not know who I meant so asked for Mr William and received the same answer. I asked where had gone to and they said and I then divined that they meant Mr William Alden. I asked why the children did not come to school and found a great many of them had the small pox. They pointed out one child in the circle round me who had it…he informed me that he thought he was going to have it for he had got one bump now. I wanted to get away from them as soon as I could so said I would drive towards Mulberry Hill and meet Mr Allen… Paris came to William for an explanation of some remarks he heard I had made about his marriage. Such as saying it was not clean etc. In the PM while I was quietly

1927 Handwritten Diary Ex WWI Army Surgeon Boston Ads for Sexual Neuroses Cures
If you’ve already read these first two paragraphs go to the red highlighted paragraph as that is where my description begins) EBay is now telling their sellers that they cannot use any outside links that have anything to do with selling(and believe me it’s hard to find ones that don’t) So if you’ve followed my listings you know I use a lot of web links because they help to describe the people. Places and events that these antique diaries talk about. With that said I think my descriptions are going to be quiet different as I have to be very selective on which web links to put in; if any. I need to say this too and that is Ebay is getting so tight, controlling and expensive and they are pushing me into finding a different way of selling my items. Sorry if I sound frustrated. Secondly and more important I want to say that on a weekly basis I ... moreget questions from bidders asking if I split up family lots of diaries and sell them separately. So I thought I’d post something to ease everyone’s mind before they buy. I am very passionate about diary collecting and history and I can’t even imagine buying a diary lot from one particular family and then splitting them up and selling each separately. Its heart wrenching when I see this happening and you have my promise that if I have more then one diary. No matter how many I have, I will always sell family lots together in one auction. But I think it’s a good question you should always ask your sellers just in case you want to try and keep a lot together. And with that said… I finally want to mention that it is illegal by EBay’s rules to copy all or any part of the description here for purposes of selling elsewhere. Their policy is listed here; http:pages.ebay.com/help/policies/image-text.html I have no problem at all with anyone purchasing my item and reselling it. However my description that I’ve worked hours on is not allowed to be copied by anyone for the above purposes. The main reason I write this is because I was contacted about a listing where someone had copied

Antique 1881 Winthrop ME Diary Leather Standard No.115 Funerals & Jail Visit NR
Hello! Thank you for joining us in order to preview a highly distinctive. Antiquarian leather bound document for the collector and historian. Offered here is an original Standard No. 115, leather bound Diary with marbled page edges. The antiquarian pocket diary is extensively filled in with hand written entries. During the busy Summer months the writer must have been caught up in the warm weather festivities; where the reader will find many blank pages and gaps. The author, writing for the year 1881 resided in the Winthrop, Maine area and was well educated, having neat writing skill and penmanship for a young lady of twenty-one years. Her writing revolves around a busy life of sewing and attending singing class; with extensive weather reporting and visits from the love of her life. During the winter months, one will read about her father ... moreand his efforts in keeping the roads cleared. It seems as though it was a never ending battle, during sub-zero temperatures. The young lady attended many funerals, with mention of one being a horrible experience; where she mentioned how the deceased was missing her flesh and did not look"natural" From raising finches to visiting a murderer in jail; the diary does not offer much outside of the norm in rural New England. Most of her time was spent sewing and quilting, preparing meals, cleaning and waiting for visitors. The antiquarian diary is in high grade condition for the collector, showing no unsightly indications of age. A fun keepsake for the collector. Be sure to stake a claim now or simply follow the early"Standard No. 115" on your"WATCH LIST" Thank you for the kind bidness and support. Take care and God bless.
1927 HANDWRITTEN DIARY Cape Cod Brookline Boston Norfolk Massachusetts History
1927 HANDWRITTEN DIARY- I am always intrigued by diaries that were written by the wealthy, especially those of teenage young women as their entries are so captivating. This is one of those amazing diaries! This INCREDIBLE SPECTACULAR 86 YEAR OLD handwritten antique diary/ journal/ manuscript book was written by a young 14 year old woman named MILDRED BELL and she lived in BROOKLINE. NORFOLK COUNTY, MASSACHUSETTS. Mildred was the daughter of Henry C. Anna F Bell, and she had an older brother named Harry. Her father was wealthy and according to census records. He sold real estate. Mildred was a very popular girl who had a lot of friends. She attended Brookline High School. And in the summer. She and her mother went to live at their summer home at"The Cape" Her father would come down to see them from time to time, but most of the summer ... moreshe was able to just hang out and have oodles of fun with her many friends. This diary is such a fun read! Some of the locations she mentions in her entries are: Newton ~ Newtonville ~ Beaconsfield ~ Alston ~ Plymouth ~ Sandwich ~ Cambridge ~ Lynn ~ Westboro ~ Riverside ~ Eastham ~ Orleans ~ Everett ~ Provinctown ~ Dedham ~ Brookline ~ Nausel ~ and there are many others! This is a VERY RARE One-Of-A-Kind Window Into Massachusetts& American History! Such an amazing diary! It's so interesting to read about the life of this young teenager, and her entries make the reader wish they were her friend because she had so much fun! She was a typical girl who worried about her grades in school, and she went to parties. Dances, and she loved to ice-skate! But when school let out for the summer, she and her mother packed their things and went to Cape Cod. and that's when Mildred really let loose! She would hang out with her many friends at the beach nearly every day, and have tons of fun! She went swimming. Learned to drive a car, and they would pack up to 9 in the car and go out cruising on the back roads just being crazy& silly. And have fun! And th
1918 Diary of Katherine Flory, Sparta - Dansville NY Cast her 1st Vote!
This diary was kept by Katherine Flory of Livingston County New York. According to census records. She lived in the town of Sparta on the Dansville Conesus Lake Road. Born in May 1865, Kate" married John Flory and had two children- Fred and Howard. John died between the 1910 and 1920 census, and I don't find him mentioned in the diary, so she was probably a widow at the time she kept her journal. She was faithful in writing short but interesting entries each day of the year. She mentions the weather. The many chores she did, and both visitors and visits that she had. Among the other names mentioned are Barbers, Teitworths, Murry, Bright, Gilman, Henry, and many more. She visits Dansville quite often. Trips to Avon and Groveland are also mentioned. She also recorded casting her first vote! The diary is about 4 X 6 inches. Although ... morethe spine is cracked. The binding of the journal pages is tight and complete. Please examine the images carefully for more details on condition and examples of content.
1953 HANDWRITTEN DIARY w/ PHOTOGRAPH ~ Houston, Harris County, Texas TX History
1953- 1954 HANDWRITTEN DIARY- If you like diaries that will take you back in time, those that were written by fun-loving carefree high school gals with detailed entries and heartfelt emotions. That include a photograph of the author, then this is the diary for you! This AMAZING 60 YEAR OLD handwritten vintage diary/ journal/ manuscript book was written by BERNICE EVELYN BECK who was in the senior class in High School when she wrote it, and I believe she was attending some kind of boarding school. Bernice lived in HOUSTON. HARRIS COUNTY, TEXAS. She traveled at times for speaking arrangements. And apparently she was very good because she received so many requests. She had to turn some down! My research shows that she attended the University of Houston. She married ALVIS VERNIE LONG on May 7. 1966 in Harris County. Texas, when she was 29 years ... moreold. T his diary is WONDERFUL! One of the things that makes this diary very special, is that she expresses many emotions in her entries! And included is a photograph of Bernice that was tucked between the pages! I also found a yearbook photo of her while she was attending the University. This is a VERY RARE One-Of-A-Kind Window Into Texas& American History! Diaries from Texas are always a treat to find because for some reason. They are less common than those from the eastern states. Bernice's entries start while in Mexico with friends on school break. And then she returns to Texas and starts school again. She is in love with"Gus" And he is quite worried of losing her to another guy. I guess he had good reason to be worried. Since she married someone else! This diary measures 5 1/4" x 6 1/2" It has only 63 entries. But still I found it entertaining to read, especially since she expresses her innermost emotions in her entries! The diary has dark brown smoke marks consistant with being in a fire. And it has tape repairs. if only it could talk. I'm sure it would have a lot of stories to tell! And I don't know about you, but I always love

1850 Handwritten Diary -Lake Mich Schooner to Oconto, WI, Works in Logging Camp
Charles D. Shoemaker. The author of this diary, lived in Joliet Illinois. In the year 1850, he traveled by schooner from Chicago to Oconto, Wisconsin to work in a logging camp. This was not his first trip to Oconto. There is a brief description of a previous trip at the beginning of the diary. At the time of this diary. Logging was on it's way to becoming the leading industry in Wisconsin. It was hard, dangerous and poorly paid work, laborers made between 12- 25 dollars per month. The trees were felled in the winter months, cut and taken by teams to the river, then sent downstream to mills in the spring when the ice began to melt What is so fascinating about this diary is that the author made notes about working in each phase of the logging process. He left Joliet on October 21, 1850 and did not return until September 22, 1851, having ... morespent almost a full year working in the logging camp. During the author's 5 day trip on Lake Michigan. He noted the day and time they passed cities and landmarks- Waukegan, Milwaukee, So Washington, Sheboygan, Manitouwec. He also mentioned passing through the"door" which was Deaths Door, the site of many shipwrecks. He began work sawing the day after he arrived. He also had some other jobs: Nov 7. 1850.Went on board the brig Mary and got a boat load of corn. The Mill stood still. Nov 21.Left the Upper Mill in the morning. Went up to where we left the boat last night and found it frozen. We went down to the Steam Mill again and 9 of us brought a load of corn to the Upper Mill on a scow boat. Nov 23.Took a scow load of lumber out to the vessel. Was all day getting out into the Bay through the ice. Got unloaded two hours after dark. The wind blew like the devil into shore. We cast the scow boat loose from the vessel and went ashore locomotive speed. Dark and rainy and we got caught on a lee shore. Took the yawl and found the mouth of the river. Got to the Steam Mill at ten oclock at night. The following week. Mr Shoemaker wrote of taking a load of

1923 HANDWRITTEN DIARY Danville Plainfield Hendrick Indiana History KU KLUX KLAN
1923 HANDWRITTEN DIARY- I have been a collector of diaries for over 25 years, and it's rare to find a one written by a woman who attends Ku Klux Klan events! But this is one of those diaries! Here is an AMAZING 80 YEAR OLD handwritten antique diary/ journal/ manuscript book and it was written by a woman named HALCYON D. HALLIE" CHRISTIE- MILES and she lived just outside of the town of NEW WINCHESTER, located in HENDRICKS COUNTY. INDIANA. Hallie" was born on April 6. 1880 in Kansas She was the oldest child of James Monroe Christie(1855- 1940) Henrietta F. Gorsuch(1854- 1922) Her siblings were: James(died at the age of 2) ~ Ralph ~ Lulu Ann ~ Mildred. She also had an unnamed sibling that died shortly after birth. She married Daniel Jesse Miles on October 29. 1918 in Hendricks County, Indiana. Daniel was 10 years older than Hallie. ... moreAfter their marriage. Hallie& Daniel made their home in Indiana. Hallie died in Paradise. Butte County, California on Oct. 14, 1964. I will include a copy of her census information from 1910& 1920. This Diary is a RARE One-Of-A-Kind Personal Slice of Indiana& American History! I was so surprised when I read Hallie's entries of attending the Ku Klux Klan events! In 1923. The Indiana KKK membership increased dramatically under the new leadership of David Curtis Stephenson: http:en.wikipedia.org/wiki/D.C.Stephenson until he was convicted in 1925 of the rape and murder of Madge Oberholtzer, who was a young school teacher. http:en.wikipedia.org/wiki/D.C.Stephenson After Stephenson's conviction. Membership declined sharply. You can read about the it all here: http:en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Indiana_Klan There are many names mentioned in Hallie's entries. And would be a great diary for anyone interested in the history& people of this area, or for anyone doing genealogy research! This is a fabulous slice of historic Americana! The diary has 365 handwritten entries and measures 4" x 6" And it is in very good condition with no loose or missing pages. H
1924 Handwritten Diary White Star Line Ship Majestic Trip to Ireland Dungarvan
I want to say that on a weekly basis I get questions from bidders asking if I split up family lots of diaries and sell them separately. And with that said… I also need to mention that it is illegal by EBay’s rules to copy all or any part of the description here for purposes of selling ... moreelsewhere. Their policy is listed here; http:pages.ebay.com/help/policies/image-text.html I have no problem at all with anyone purchasing my item and reselling it. However my description that I’ve worked hours on is not allowed to be copied by anyone for the above purposes. The main reason I write this is because I was contacted about a listing where someone had copied my exact auction and tried to sell a diary that they didn’t even have. It ended up being a fraudulent auction and I’m thankful they caught it in time. Thank you so much for your understanding. Up for auction today is a 77 page handwritten diary that was kept by a woman who sailed on the great ocean liner“Majestic” in 1924. When I was looking for a photo or web site to share with you about the Majestic I found this INCREDIBLE VIDEO taken in 1931 of the Majestic. http:www.youtube.com/watch?v=VP46USxORgQ Now the diary of course was written 7 years earlier but to know our author walked the decks of this ship shown in the video is so surreal to me. The trip starts on June 28 th leaving New York Harbor and then ends on August 16 th while still at sea. The first 7 pages of the diary are written while on board t

Kimm, his military I D, a document from the President of the United States stating Kimm's Satisfactory Service during WWII signed by Secretary of the Navy James Forrestal, a typewritten account of an ordeal on board a Japanese ship as a POW, and an interesting typewritten radio broadcast telling of an atomic bomb attack on Chicago(The War That Must Not Come) as well as other documents pertaining to Kimm's service. Kimm enlisted in the fall of 1940 and was on the battleship Utah which sank December 7th at Pearl Harbor. ... moreKimm as among those rescued. A photocopy of a newspaper article is included in which Kimm gives a brief account of the attack: I awoke to the sound of anti-aircraft guns. The roar of planes, shattering glass and the rocking of the ship. Being half awake, I thought it rather a little too real for practice. I jumped up, pulled on my trousers and one shoe. By that time I heard the boys outside my room hollering'Jap Raid! The ship was listing. I went back into the room and got my life jacket, even though I can swim well. A lot of the boys were in the water, but some were hesitating. I hollered at them that I was going in. So down in the water I went, the earliest morning swim I've ever taken. Then I hollered to the boys to come on in-and swam away. I thought maybe the Utah would suck me down, never having experienced this before. Finally, I got to a key, the thing the ship was tied to. From there, a boat took me to shore. The article states Ensign Kimm enlisted in the Naval Reserve about a year ago in the 90-day course at Northwestern University. At the end of three months, he was commissioned an ensign. He is the son of Mr. and Mrs. William S. Kimm. Lt. Kimm was from

1861 Handwritten Civil War Era Diary Journal -Stanley-Attleboro Ma 7th Regiment
The author of this diary was a young woman who was either 17 or 22 years old. Depending on which census record you look at. Her name is not written in the book, but I am quite sure her first name was Sylvia. On one page someone wrote"Sylvia, you did not write in your diary today" On another page, she wrote at the bottom a few times the name"Sylvia Stanley" What is confusing is that the young man she was interested in and eventually married was named Stephen Stanley, but census records show that his parentage was different then that of Sylvia. To make matters even more confusing, there is the name Artemas Stanley, Camp Old Coloney, Company, Taunton Ma written on the last page of the diary. According to early Mass census records, this young man had different parentage than either Stephen or Sylvia. All three are listed as ... moreliving in Attleboro, Ma. Artemas Stanley volunteered in 1861, was in the Mass 7th Regiment, and died of illness in 1862. I am quite sure that the 19 yr old Stephen the author wrote about was the Steven Stanley who belonged to the 7th Regiment from Massachusetts. This regiment was stationed at Camp Brightwood at Washington DC in 1861. Sylvia wrote of Stephen being sent to Washington DC and of sending him letters there. She wrote: July 12. 1861.Attleboro Volunteers left for Washington. Hope they will all arrive safe! On one page in the diary. There is a drawing of the flag, and written underneath: The Star Spangled Banner In triumph shall wave Ore the land of the free And the home of the brave When this you see Remember your soger boy Steve Sylvia mentioned having discussions about the war with her friends. She also wrote of Steven and other men going to Taunton. Which is where they went to volunteer. She wrote of the Attleboro Volunteers in their uniforms and of bands playing in town. Very early in the war she wrote: April 25.A great Battle fought- two lives lost- Northerners carried the day. May 17.Very pleasant but cold. Worked all day. Company marched to Attleboro by

1853 Diary with Handwritten Obituary of Emma Boardman Waukegan ILL Spiritualist
Although this diary only has one entry that covers two pages. The provenance is so very interesting. It’s an 1853 black pocket diary and on March 12 th. 1855(the“3” in 1853 has been replaced by a“5” the following is written… Died Mrs. Emma A. Boardman the wife of Hon. William A. Boardman of Waukegan Ill. She was a devoted believer in the ministrations of angles and the communion of saints on the power of the departed spirits of those who have lived upon earth to and to assist and influence their brethren of earth to attain to an exalted philosophy and knowledge of the laws of life and a future refined state of endless progression. She was called to bear a most severe illness with a calm tranquility of mind seldom was equaled. She leaves four children to mourn and a devoted husband. Abides where everlasting spring and never withering flowers ... moredeath like a narrow seed divide this Heavenly land promises. Here’s the cool thing. She and her husband. William A. Boardman were supposed spiritualists in Waukegan. Illinois and the above quote seems to be a testament to that. He was a lawyer. Then a judge and also the village president in 1851. At one point he went to a church trial to represent a Miss Grace Davis who was accused by the Christian congregational church of using her spiritualistic powers and healing mediums to cure sick people and help them out with their suffering. She was thought by the church to be an unsavory woman, very much like the Salem witch trials. I got most of this information from a book called“Modern American Spiritualism” The book has an article about this very trial and begins by says… CHURCH TRIAL OF MISS GRACE DAVIS-WAUKEGAN INDEPENDENT DEMOCRAT. During the past year and a half. Scarcely a day has elapsed in which the citizens of Waukegan have not been cheered by the sight of a little airy female form, quietly gliding form the sick bed of one sufferer to that of another and under the professed guidance of“spirits” administering such aid as was within her power. The almost une
1850's Diary Manuscript - Christine Bailey - Abraham Lincoln
This listing is for an incredible. Rare, and beautiful notebook of poetry as collected by Miss(Mrs? Christene Jane Bailey from 1854 through at least 1861. She unfortunately gives no clues as to her age, place of residence, or marital status. However, I believe she was a young woman who loved to copy poetry in beautiful handwriting. The manuscript's first page reads: Christene Bailey's Book. Containing a Collection of selected Poetry Chiefly Copied From books writtent by different Authors" and the year 1856. And that's exactly what this book is: various poems by different authors, all copied in the elegant and beautiful hand of Christene Bailey. One of the poems is titled"The Slave" and the issue of slavery obviously moved her deeply. This poem. Actually titled"The Negro's Complaint" was written in ... morethe year 1788 by William Cowper, a famous anti-slavery poet of the 1700's. Another poem"The Spiritual Railway To Heaven" by James Thomspon(1845) is copied in gorgeous calligraphy as well. Several other poems that Miss Bailey obviously loved are included. She was obviously a deeply religious woman as most of the poems deal with faith, belief, and spirituality. Probably the most famous poem copied in this manuscript was President Abraham Lincoln's favorite piece of poetry: Oh Why Should The Spirit Of Mortal Be Proud? written by William Knox in 1824. Christene records the entire poem in her manuscript. But incorrectly attributes authorship to Lincoln himself, writing"By Abraham Lincoln now President Of The United States. She must have written this in late 1860 or early 1861 after his election and inauguration. There are numerous other writings in the manuscript. Mostly poetry, but some what are apparently school lessons. All in varying types of writing and printing, but obviously all in Miss Bailey's hand. Looks to be around 45-50 pages in the book in total. Condition: The hardbound book's cover is rough. With part of the binding gone. However, the boo

1929 Handwritten Diary with Poem "Within My Diary" Orleans Co VT Newport by Lake
I’m not quite sure of the name of this young girl who wrote this 1929 diary but I can tell you she lived in or around Orleans County Vermont. I’m not sure which village or town but here are the places she mentions(and I believe some of them are in Canada as she is very close to the boarder) Plymouth. Newport. Richmond Hill. Derby Line and Derby Center. St. Johnsbury, Seymour Lake. Island Pond and Northfield. I believe it’s one of those towns close to a lake because she’s always mentioning ice skating on the lake. Planes landing on the lake, etc. I think she’s a high school girl or perhaps a little younger. The diary is completely full of handwritten entries for everyday and long ones too. I want to start off with a wonderful poem she has written in the back about diary keeping… WITHIN MY DIARY There’s nothing left for me of days that use ... moreto be. I live in memory within my diary. Some written words of old. Some writing not so bold. It’s worth its weight in gold, in my small diary. Within its covers brown. Various secrets written down and over them I frown to give me consolation. And as I read it through. And glorify it too, I find the days are new, within my diary. 1929“It hasn’t been quite as cold today. We went with the horse this A.M. and this noon. I have my 100 drills on in Palmer Method writing and have started on diploma. M. and I walked home tonight. Teams are going across the bay and lake now…Got up early this A.M. as we had solid cession again today. I ate dinner over to Betty’s. We went up to the ski jump this P.M. it was Pine Hill. The highest jump was about 125 ft. Dad brought me up home in a new Ford. We have had about 6 inches of snow. M. went over to Eloa’s this P.M. We have just heard Lady Mary Heath talk on aviation on the radio…It has been a nice winter day. We have driven our new Ford about 100 miles. I like it awfully well. An army airplane landed down on the lake tonight. It had skis on. Betty came across the bay with me tonight. She didn’t go to school this A.M. as she had to

Albert writes of his daughter Lena's marriage in his diary entries! And sadly. He also writes of the death of Ivan's wife after having an operation to remove her dead baby from her. This is a VERY RARE One-Of-A-Kind Window into New York& American History! I'm always excited when I find an early diary from a small American town. As these pieces of history are so rare and precious! Richburg is a small village. So this diary is a rare look into it's early history as there probably aren't too many diaries from this town that still exist. There are 7 1/2 years of handwritten entries in this diary, that is 2726 entries! for the years of 1901. 1902, 1903, 1904, 1905, 1906, 1907, and half of 1908. The diary is large. It measures 6 1/4" x 15" The entries fill 193 pages(keep in mind how large the pages are! So it's like actually getting a collection of 7 1/2 diaries for the price of one! Due to there being so many entries in it, I didn't have the time to read through it all. But I did page throug
Dr. Helen Brown Ballou College Scientist Professor Connecticut Botany Rare diary
This is from the estate of Dr. Stanley and Dr. Helen Bromley(nee Brown) From what I can gather Dr. Stanley Bromley was an entomologist and Dr. Helen Bromley was a botanist. They lived in Stamford. Connecticut. The family is a descendant of the Ballou family which is one of America’s oldest families. As you will see if you check out the other lots, there are all types of direct links to this family and kings, queens, you name it. I acquired a huge lot that I just don’t have the time to research in detail. Hence, I broke it up. I did some top line research but there is just too much. They’re lawyers, doctors, scientists, you name it. Dr. Stanley Bromley was a well-known etymologist that worked for the Bartlett Tree and Research Company. For those that live in Connecticut or Westchester, NY…his research helped shape(literally with trees) the ... moreMerritt Parkway. I have other lots of his published work and research that you just don’t find lying around. He knew a lot about trees and bugs. This auction is for a lot of letters. College newsletters, pamphlets, clippings, old report cards, a diary, even an old gift guide owned by the Bromleys(I wish these people were my friends, they were generous) Most are the personal effects of Dr. Helen Bromley(nee Brown) Dr. Bromley was a botanist and professor at Ohio State University from 1955-1970. She ran for politics when she was younger…a remarkable women. Here is a sampling of what’s included: Certificate of recognition from the Board of Trustees at Ohio State. An old Sorority certificate with a bunch of signatures dated 1912, her diary(not complete) clippings from her wedding to Dr. Stanley Bromley(it mentions the Ballous) a published article from OSU 1935 when then Helen Brown wrote about Marine Algae…and everything else you see in the pictures except my living room floor. UPDATE: Note about the diary: The front says"Diary 1959" Inside it starts January 1. 1959. There are 5 complete pages that go up to April 11. There is a month on each page with a line for each d

1944 Handwritten Diary Fairbanks Alaska Denali National Park Brundidge Holt
I would have never guessed that a diary. With only 30 days of handwritten days, would contain such interesting and mysterious entries as this one does. The diary originally belonged to Charles William Holt who during the time this diary was written was in Alaska. I believe he was in the Fairbanks area and some of the remote areas around Fairbanks. Including Nenana. The diary is from 1944, WWII era, and he didn’t seem to be there as a military man(although there are some entries about the war and it’s progress) but seemed to have more interest in visiting mines. I believe he buys a piece of property around the Denali National Park Area called Windy Creek. http:www.nps.gov/dena/planyourvisit/unit16.htm BUT his biggest interest. One which consumes him, was a woman named Della. On the inside front cover of this diary, Charles writes… To know ... morewhat is right and not do it is to lack courage. The reason I say there is a mystery behind this diary is because Della is married(and not to Charles) and I couldn’t believe I actually found her on the web(Couldn’t seem to find Charles though) Della also has a little girl and Charles says that the little girl is his. The web however says the child belongs to her husband. Neil. They also have 2 other children. Della and her husband live in a remote cabin that Charles says is around Post 369. I will send along with this diary, the full names of Della and Neil. Charles still dates but says the woman he’s dating is a“gold digger” At one point he even sends a message through a radio station. A song dedication, to Della and she sends one back the next day. Finally Charles gets brave and in the last entry of the diary Charles writes that he sent Della a note by train saying he’ll be there the next day and if she doesn’t want to meet him to have a note at Post 369. What an entry too because he does go and ends of watching her cabin through binoculars. I would love to know the entire story. On a side note he also gets a letter from Argentina and says the news is very sad and

THERE IS A GENEALOGICAL ENTRY STATING THAT ELIJAH ROSE ALSO SERVED DURING THE REVOLUTIONARY WAR. BASED ON THE INSCRIPTIONS. I BELIEVE IT WAS JOINTLY OWNED BY FOSTER AND ROSE. IT SEEMS THAT I COULD HAVE ALSO BEEN USE AND/OR GIVEN TO DAVID ARNOLD. DAVID WROTE A NUMBER OF MILITARY ACTIVITIES AND ENTRIES SUCH AS HARNESSES FOR HORSES. 1911/1913 HANDWRITTEN DIARY OF CHARLES SHERIFF/WHITEWATER WIS./FULL!!
Up for auction is the diary of Mr. Charles Sheriff from Whitewater Wis.I see the years 1911 and 1912.But am not really sure what or how many years are covered, because he writes the day and the month, but not the year, usually, and will not write for a long time and then will pick up and write again. He has written it in an old autograph book of his that has a couple of signitures and poems from the late 1800's and he has written his diary all around them. There are only about three signitures on three pages and they also have lovely pencil drawings with them.He writes about his big family, working in his garden, the farm work that was done, the farm animals, the weather, sickness, friends and callers and much more! The diary or autograph book is in good condition considering its age.His handwriting is a bit of a challege at first, and takes some getting ... moreuse to,but the more I read the easier it got.Someone who has the time could do some research about this man and his family and find out the whole story. He seems like a very nice man,who was very family oriented.Any questions please feel free to email me and thank you so much for looking! 1894 Handwritten Diary Works on River Barge Backanan Fairview Park OH or Indiana
I want to start off by saying that on a weekly basis I get questions from bidders asking if I split up family lots of diaries and sell them separately. And with that said… Then I need to put that it is illegal by EBay’s rules to copy all or any part of the description here for purposes ... moreof selling elsewhere. This is an 1894 diary that originally belonged to W. Buckanan of Fairview Park it only had 114 pages of handwritten entries. They all fall between June 6 th and September 26 th with an entry for every day between those dates. Actually there is one entry before that and I’ve quoted it below. On the inside front cover it says“Dedicated to C. L. S. June 5. 94. Then on the opposite page it says“W. Backanan Fairview Park. It could read Buchanan. I’ve scanned a close-up. I’m not positive of the location but I do know he works on a boat(barge) and because of the other places mentioned I thought it might be F
RARE 1881 HANDWRITTEN CIVIL WAR VETS DIARY Minneapolis Minnesota History Floods
1881 HANDWRITTEN DIARY- It's so rare that I find diaries from Minnesota, especially one that was written by a Veteran of the Civil War. When I started to research this very rare diary. I was amazed at how much history was represented. WHAT A GREAT PIECE OF AMERICANA! The Minnesota Territorial Legislature founded Minneapolis in 1855. Minneapolis incorporated as a city in 1867, It's amazing to think that this diary was written there just fourteen years later! T his AMAZING INCREDIBLE 132 YEAR OLD handwritten antique diary/ journal/ manuscript book was written by a man who was named CONRAD E. TREADWELL. He was originally from the town of ELMIRA. CHEMUNG COUNTY, NEW YORK but in the 1850's he traveled west. first to Iowa. Then Missouri, then on to Minnesota. He was living in MINNEAPOLIS. MINNESOTA when he wrote this diary, and he was ... moreserving as a Judge! Conrad was born abt. 1833. So he was 48 years old when he wrote this diary. While researching him. I found his Civil War Draft Registration records, and I'll include a copy of this information to the winning bidder. Here is some interesting genealogy background I found while researching him: Conrad E. was born to Hezekiah& Julia Noble, and he had six siblings- Nobel S. Sophia, Charles H. Hezekiah D. Samuel B. and John N. Julia(Noble) Treadwell was the daughter of John Noble. Who traced his ancestry to Thomas Noble, who came from England and settled in America as early as 1653. After their marriage. Hezekiah Treadwell and his wife made their home in New Milford, Connecticut, until 1817, when they moved to Deposit. New York and continued to reside there until 1829. In March 1830. Hezekiah died in East Franklin, NY, and Julia passed away in 1833. The five sons were orphaned and taken and raised by relatives. including Conrad. The man who wrote this diary- he was a just a baby at the time. In 1855. Conrad's brother, John N. decided to seek his fortune in the west(like Conrad) and he went to St. Paul. Minnesota. In 1874- 187

Antique 1877 Post Civil War Diary Marry Bates Putnam CT Haverhill MA Auburn ME
This auction is for a neat little antique diary. The diary is technically a diary printed in 1896 but the owner(Mary E Bates whose name is stamped inside the front cover) actually filled the diary out in 1897 so at the head of each page entry where the date is given she wrote a"7" over the"6" in the year"1896" left the day of the week but then scratched out the date and updated it with the years correct corresponding date so for instance the page header"Thurs. Oct 1. 1896" is corrected to read"Thurs Sept 30, 1897" The diary also comes with a photograph and 4 negatives which were found inside a small pocket in the back of the diary. The photograph is of a young girl, presumably Mary or a close friend of and the negatives are of a cat, dog, large pile of snow and two women done up in victorian ... moredresses and giant hats. First bit of the diary is left empty. First entry appears to be July 31st and for the first few weeks entries were random and not all that often until August 19th. From that point there is an entry just about every day for the rest of the year. I have not thoroughly read through, only flipped through reading random bits and pieces. From what I gather part of the entries were written near Putnam, CT others in Haverhill, MA and there is mention of several towns all over New England from Providence RI and Boston to Auburn ME. Mary's father was apparently a traveling pastor. Lots of mention of carrying lumber and hay, picking and selling apples, shooting and eating squirrels and etc. One really fun excerpt about traveling with a friend to have photographs taken. Who knows what's in here. Back of diary also has a filled out"Cash Account" section, Letters recieved" section and"Addresses" Measures 5 x 3 1/4" If you have any questions please dont hesitate to message me. I generally respond within 24 hours International bidders please message me before bidding to agree on shipping cost Thanks for having a look!
