In giving over 25 years of harmonica lessons to over 2500 players, I have found that a good percentage of them are playing the harmonica for fun, often by themselves. Akro Agate was in Clarksburg. West Virginia and was in business from around 1911 and closed in 1949. They specialized in marbles and glassware. As a young child. I instantly fell in love with Akro and my parents collected it for me for several years. I loved traveling to West Virginia with my parents to go picking for antiques all of sorts through those beautiful hills(including the Hardey's shop in Clarksburg on a regular basis) for their antique shop in Waynesville, Ohio. Now that I have young children of my own, it's time to sell a few pieces(mostly in fear of my beautiful Akro getting broken by the kids and lack of storage space. Honestly. I'm not sure if this piece is Akro or Westite due to the coloring. It's coloring appears to be to be that of Westite but I don't know for sure. English Tabbed Footed Vase
English tab footed vase with a tricorner crimped and rolled rim. The glass is amber with six large tabbed feet that are a turquoise blue. The vase stands 5" tall and is 4" wide. The tabbed feet are approximately 1" across and there is a large polish pontil on the bottom. Possibly made by one of the finer English glassmakers. Ca. early 1900's. There is no damage to the vase. It is called the"Instant Speller, and it was published by Dr. W. Smith. The copyright year on the exterior of the item is 1960. The pages are enclosed in a rigid. Hinged case with a sliding pointer. Simply drag the pointer to the section you want to refer to, then press the brass button, and the cover flips open to the desired section. The item still works very well. The exterior shows some wear. But nearly all the pages inside are clean and unmarked. The photos attached to this listing show the few pages I could find that have stains or pen marks on them.
