It has been suggested that this is an early telegraph relay which was used for transferring signals from one line to another but not for actually receiving a signal. Lot of 2 Pc Antique Vtg JH Bunnell Telegraph Relay Sounder Wood Base & Part
These two pieces came from an auction in Vermont. The brass arm on the relay is marked JH Bunnell& Co New York USA. The wooden base on the relay measures 5 1/2 by 3 inches. Someone has scratched their name onto the underside of the wooden base. I am not sure if either piece is complete. Please see all pictures. The handle and the h shaped base under the handle appear to be brass, a magnet does not stick to them. The wooden base on the other piece measures 4 5/8 by just under 2 inches. I am not sure what this piece was used for, any information would be greatly appreciated. I do not know anything about telegraph parts, so please use the pictures for the description. They both have wear and use marks.
