Rare Unusual Vintage Antique Waterbuy G L Time Switch Gallery Clock
Here is a very unusual(rare? Waterbury gallery clock- dial and movement are marked. Clock is 15 inches wide and 15 inches tall. Has a 24-hour metal setting dial with 2 pointers and at one time had 4 wires coming out of the bottom of the case. The label on the back says it was manufactured by the G L Time Switch Company in St Louis and has a couple diagrams. I have no idea what this clock was used for and had no luck looking on the internet. I assume the clock was used to initiate an electric current that would open or close a door/vault/ at the selected time by setting the points on the smaller dial. I'm sure some of you experts out there will know how this was used. I don't recall ever seeing one and I've been around clocks for some time now. Clock winds okay but is not running. It is missing the front glass and the bezel needs ... moreto be soldered back on the hinge. Clock weighs over 7 lbs and will be expensive to ship if you're an overseas buyer. I'm not an expert on this item. especially the technical terms for the various parts) but I'll describe it to the best of my ability. The large wheel on the left side of the switch can be released via a small lever at the top of the mechanism and seems to work correctly.the spring is operational. I couldn't find a similar lever that activates the right wheel, but did release the stop and the wheel moves and, in other words the spring on this wheel is operational as well) The"Japanned" finish is still strong especially inside the case, but there is some minor surface rust on the exterior case. I found another Hartford Time Switch that sold recently on Ebay whose works were supposedly marked and made by Seth Thomas.
