I plugged it in and it makes timer sound. Light goes on, and switch turns it on and off. Cord is frayed, and will need to be replaced. I imagine it has lots of gears inside, for those of you who love to make art with gears. It had black crinkle paint on metal, but is coming off. It looks like aluminum under paint.
