What a beauty! Inititally. I bought this, at auction, to substitute for a pithe helmet, something I always wanted to wear. This is in great, great shape and is a yellow, fibreglass, adjustable and rare workman's hat. It has various labels in it and I've seen only one before. Listed on ebay. I can make out that it says Davis, and also, on one of the papers, Winnipeg, and adjustable. I've had it quite some time. Just admiring it and wondering where it's been, who's worn it and what it's seen in it's lengthy travels. The interior webbing or whatever it's called, is leather and maybe canvas? I wish I knew more. But this is about all I know. There are no cracks, there is some wear, but it's in amazing shape. I hope this goes to someone who truly can appreciate it and I do thank you for looking.

For your consideration is a vintage US Government aluminum hard hat by McDonald. Bullard's"Hard Boiled" competitor. The piece is in good clean used condition banded ALUMINUM HARD HAT with liner from the estate of retired US Government safety inspectors, bureau of mines and the ASFS circa 1969-1970s. Marked"US GOVERNMENT" on the outside and"McDONALD" T" CAP-STANDARD" MINE SAFETY APPLIANCES CO. on the underside of the brim. Comes complete with original MSA adjustable plastic liner. Two original partial stickers inside back, an ANSI specifications and MSA label. This one is used and does show it, but still a nice collector's item. Measurements: Outside lip 11-1/4" by 8-1/2 and stands approximately 5-1/2" tall. Condition: Used good. Exterior has a freckling of age spots and a few small ... moredings and scratches in keeping of age. A little sticker residue on the outside. The interior webbing and lining is in good shape. This helmet will fit right into the right collection, will clean up or is ready to wear as-is.

But after some research on the internet I found a list of California businesses that showed B.F. McDonald(Safety Appliances) circa 1935. So apparently this company goes back a long, long way. I can only assume that this particular helmet probably dates from sometime between the 1950's to the 1970's from the materials and liner style but was unable to confirm any of that. Aluminium was needed for military use during WWII so I don't know if they made safety helmets like this one during WWII, I would guess not. Seems to be in good condition, the liner is in fair condition. Someone wrote inside the helmet with pencil"D.U. 8-1842" and the name"ALEX" ... moreNot sure what the number is, maybe a phone number, Union number, worker ID number? Can't be a date I don't think unless the 8 is suppose to be a 9. Would assume its some kind of ID number. Although this is dirty and dusty from use and storage, it would make a great display item. This hard hat is used and has a few minor scratches and shallow dents but this is all mostly on the right side and not bad at all anyway. The suspension is intact and shows signs of use and age but us useable. Nothing broken or missing that I can see. The hard hat has a nice label on the front as well. For auction is a HEAVY duty hard hat. Made of solid steel. I could not find one similar to compare it to and am not sure if it is from hard rock mining. Coal mining, construction, military or firefighting. I would compare it to a WWI or WWII type of steel helmet. I do know that it is a rare one. I stuck a magnet to it to confirm it is made of steel. There are no manufacturer markings on it. It is quite heavy and weighs close to 3 pounds. The crown has an extra steel support as shown. Color: it is painted dark and light green. Vintage Fiberglas MSA Hard Hat, WTS
This hard hat has been well used but is still solid. It has plenty of scratches and smudges on the outer finish but no bents or cracks. I think it is a size medium but it is adjustible so it fits many sizes. Please look at the pictures and feel free to ask any questions.

Up for auction is a vintage white Bullard 502 hard boiled fiberglass hard hat. This hard hat is used and there iPads signs of use. But overall it is in pretty nice shape. The dihedral suspension is there and it even has something I have not come across, a chin strap, which would come in handy if you were bouncing around operating equipment or something, but you can remove the strap if you wish. If you know anything about hard hats and the construction/mining/ steel working trade, you know that Bullards are the gold standard and they are great for the collector as well. Posted with
