Antique coal miners hard hat with lamp
Antique coal miners hard hat with original carbide lamp. The origin is unknown although it shows much age and a lot of use including the original owners wife or girlfriends name and presumably his work number. I picked it up years ago at a flea market in Pennsylvania and assume it originally came from there. This item is actually a piece of American history and probably belongs in a museum or someone's personal collection who may have been associated with or related to someone who worked in coal mining. If it could it probably could tell many stories. I did not attempt to clean it for fear of removing it's patina. I take paypal for payment and only ship within the U.S.A. Thanks for looking.

I am offering for auction a rare vintage brass miners Justrite Carbide Lantern/hard hat Mini Lamp/light with original box. The light is in like new condition and does not appear to have been ever used. No evidence of carbite dust on the unit. The box is in pretty rough condition but feel lucky to just have the original box. I have used some clear shipping tale to try to hold it together. It is quite fragile. VTG Justrite Carbide Head Lamp, Miners Lamp, Cap Lamp, Hard Hat Lamp
I have two Justrite carbide head lamps for sale in separate auctions. One is horizontal and the other is vertical. This is the horizontal model and is marked"Trade Mark Justrite Made in U.S.A. Pat. Applied For" on the side of the upper chamber. On the bottom is a small incised number 019 with possibly another number in front of it. This horizontal model is the older of the two carbide lamps at circa 1912 from what I can learn from other websites. I acquired these head lamps at an auction about 25 years ago. The things with it were from California's gold country and I assume were used in the mines of northern California. This horizontal lamp is about 3/3/4 in. tall and 3 in. wide at the top if you include the hook at the back. The diameter of the bottom is 2 in. The round reflector is 2 1/2 in. It weighs a little less than 6 ... moreoz. These little lights were also called cap lamps because they fit on the front of a cap. They were also used on bicycles. And larger ones in older Model T Ford head lights, and lighthouses. Their advantage over previous mine lighting was that they gave off less CO2, didn't consume 02 and they were very hot in a cold cave. And they produced a very bright light. They are pretty simple little devices with a water chamber on top and a carbide container on the bottom. You set the drip of the water with the lever on the top. The chemical reaction creates a gas that burns. You can ignite it with the little built in striker on the front of the reflector plate, or light it with a match. They last about 4 hours. This lamp has been very used and still has dirt. Soot and carbide ash on it and in it. I really like it that way. All the moveable parts move and I can't see any parts missing. VINTAGE MINERS HARD HAT CAP HELMET WITH GUYS DROPPER BRASS LAMP
I am offering this rare vintage Coal Miner's cap helmet with the Guy's Dropper brass lamp that has a patent date of 1913. There are a few light minor surface scratches but the inner leather straps are like new and solidly attached to attaching ring and there are no cracks. Dents or repairs to any part of this helmet. The"Guy's Dropper" lamp is in excellent condition and. Also, has no cracks, dent or repair(almost like new) This helmet measures 11" from the front of the lamp to the back. The inside dimensions of the helmet are 8" from front to back and 6" wide. This one of the best I have seen for quite a while. Extremely RARE SMALL MULE BOY BROWN Turtle Shell Miners Hard Hat The old miners lamp is included. Boys employed in the coal mines. Driving the mule teams and working in the screen room. Very young boys were made to work in the coal mines at a very tender age, Employed in the collieries as drivers of mules and door tenders. And in the screen room as slate pickers. Many of those little men, who with their grimy faces and hardened hands look like a strange race of human being, are under the age of 12 years, but they perform a most important task. In the great work of preparing the dusky anthracite for the market. In the mines as mule drivers these hardy lads are valuable. They sing and whistle and laugh and play amid their gloomy surroundings. an the can manage the erratic mule better than most men. Thy drive the loaded cars from the working ... morechambers to the foot of the shaft up which the coal is hoisted to the tower of the breaker. And they take the"empties" back to the men who blast down the coal from the"breast" As a general thing the boys employed as mule drivers and older and stronger than those who work in the screen rooms of the breakers. The duties of the latter consist in sorting the slate from the broken coal, which flows in black streams down a number of chutes from the ponderous machinery in which the gleaming anthracite boulders are broken into the requisite sizes. The slate pickers sit in rows astride these chutes, their eyes fixed steadily on the broken coal that brushes past them down the steep incline, and their fingers nimbly at work picking out the black, dull pieces of slate that are mixed with the glistening anthracite. During this flow of coal down the chute no shirking is tolerated. The boys must keep their eyes constantly on the chutes and see to it that all the bits of slate are taken out. Here is a very nice antique MSA Skullgard miners helmet that is in great shape for its age and use! I was told by previous owner that this was made back in the 1960s and its general appearance seems to support that information. It has its original label inside that says"MSA Sullcap size 7 1/4" plus other info. that is hard for me to read. The helmet does show signs of use with the normal wear and tear that you would find on a miners helmet. There is a small crack on the very edge on the lower right hand side that really is not bad and does not effect the look or serviceability of the piece. The lamp bracket is very strong and sound being made of thick and very hard leather. Vintage Pennsylvania Coal Miners Hard Cap Hat Helmet with Auto Lite Mine Lamp
For Sale- Vintage Pennsylvania Coal Miners Hard Cap Hat Helmet with Auto Lite Mine Lamp Helmet Description- I really don't know a lot about this helmet other than its old and its from Norther Pennsylvania coal mine region. It is a coal miners hard hat consisting of a hard shell with ventilation holes. It measures 10 1/4 long(brim to back) by 7 1/2" wide. The lamp holder is made from leather and steel and it is riveted to the helmet with 3 factory rivets. It has a really neat pattern to it possibly from the way the fiberglass was used to manufacture the helmet. This helmet comes equipped with an original auto lite miners light. This light is also very old. Helmet Condition- The pictures tell the story! This helmet has spent years in the mines of northern PA. It has scratches. Nicks, abrasions, discolorations and an indentation in ... morethe very top of the helmet(please see pics) The thick leather lamp holder has cracks from age and wear. This helmet does not have the inside liner. The auto lite lamp shows its age as well with dents, scratches and wear from hard use. Overall.
