Another great find! An African type necklace that I know nothing about! Feels like these pieces are made of a light wood. Or possibly coconut. Most all have a curve and are smooth on one side and a little rough on the other. Colors are pastels, but still pretty vibrant. Just a super looking necklace! 18" long. Circa 1840's Wood Print Block Ft. Acorn Printing Press Cincinnati Type Foundry
Winner gets an original circa 1840's wood printing block depicting an Acorn Printing Press manufactured by the Cincinnati Type Foundry. This was a very rare and expensive cast iron press invented by Otis Tufts in the early 1940's. This print block may have been used to advertise this new piece of technology. This block belongs in a museum. I guarantee you will not find one of these again! The block measures 2.75" x 3.75" and is in excellent condition for it's age. There is no major damage. These letters were working pieces used by Dahlen many many years ago in their business. They were stored for many years until I recently acquired them. They have not been cleaned. And are dirty. I did clean one letter up with a tooth brush and soap and water, it is still dark, but wood grain ... morecan be seen. It is the letter T. I cannot guarantee that all letters will clean up the same. Wooden Fishing Rod. Vintage. "Murphy" Type. Solid Wood. "Agate" guides. Rare.
Vintage Solid Wood Fishing Rod. A rare wooden fishing rod with the longest section made from one solid piece of wood. Believed to be designed as an Ocean( Saltwater) Rod. Similar to" Murphy" rods of this type. But it is not known if this is an actual Murphy. It appears to be a"production" commercial) type rod, and not homemade. Type of wood is unknown, may be Hickory or Birch. Wood is in good shape with no visible drying or rotting. Not laminated. 85 inches total length, the top part is 66 inches. 31/32" in the widest spot. Flat on one side. Agate" type glass guides and tip. 2 guides are missing. Handle is wooden and has been turned on a lathe. Diameter of the bottom part of the grip is about 1 1/2 inches. The fore grip is about an inch in diameter. The metal reel seat is 5 5/32 inches long. No visible makers ... moremarks or decals on the rod or reel seat. The ferrel is clean inside and the top part slides easily in and out of the butt section. I am not that familiar with rods of this type, so if I erred in any part of my description or assumptions, please let me know and I will add it to my listing. NEW YORK CITY Statue of Liberty ashtray certainly never used. Possibly just for decoration Exact age is unknown. But judging by the sculptures on it, it may be a PRE-1930's item because i cannot see The Empire State Building on the front behind the Statue. And invariably this was nearly always included in skyline depictions after it was finished in the 30's. Can't say for CERTAIN it is older than the 30's but the COMPOSITION is indicative of pre-30's era. And even late 1800's LOOKING VERY CLOSELY UNDER MAGNIFICATION. One can see what appears to be a DATE under the word"YORK" and it looks like it possibly says 18?8 but i cannot see it exactly. It is made of molded pressed composition. Of woodish or paper mache material of unknown type. Some research possibly pointed to"Syroco Wood" of the 1930's-40's ... morebut we simply do not know. just under 4 inches wide. A rather big chip is on the front edge of one of the edges(ZOOM IN PHOTO FOR DETAIL) and there is wear/chipping on the front edges. The bottom looks very good. You can see the old wooden roller coasters illustrated on one of the side panels, and what looks like a harbor scene. No cracks, has near 90% of original japanning intact…As with the vintage of the part, there are a few dents, dings, and a few light scratches, and discoloration, all as noted from the photos. These blocks were packed and stored in our basement. A few years ago, they were rinsed and repacked.
