I have ... moredone some research on them and found that they are all related to an Ad campaign by INDIAN GASOLINE& OIL. TEXACO or HAVOLINE OIL. These Letterpress Blocks are done by highly skilled artisans/ Engravers and each represents a different scene and story line for the Ad. All were produced by"Syndicate Advertising Co. of New York who were the chief Ad Agency for Indian Gasoline& Oil in those days. Indian Gas& Oil's office at that time was also in Manhattan just a few blocks away. The Blocks were shipped in a small. Addressed envelope and accompanied by a 3 Cent Stamp for Postage. The Individual who all the Blocks were sent to was named HENRY S. BIR of LA GRANGE. INDIANA. I have learned in my research that Mr. Bir was a prominent business man back in the day. He owned a number of businesses including his"BIR GAS& SERVICE STATION" as well as the"BIR GARAGE HOTEL" In addition. Mr. Bir was head of the INDIANA BUSINESS EXCHANGE(a Civic Club for Businessmen) and was even active in the organization on a National Level. There are about 50 different Blocks in the collection. Each has a different scene and would have delivered a different Ad message. Originally. When mailed, the Block was accompanied by a small Paper/ Ad slick which shows a print copy of the Letterpress in the mailer and an accompanying storyline and Ad featuring the Letterpress. Not all Printblocks are accompanied by the Ad or the Envelope or both. In the case where an Ad is not present, I have provided photos of an enlarged Xerox copy(2 actually- a dark and a light contrast) for you to see the image. Up for auction is a set of wood letterpress type. The letters are 2" tall and have a wonderful patina. A little cleaning and some lemon oil really brings out the color. I don't know what the font is but I would describe it as a serif art deco font. There are 103 characters in this set. ANRI Italy Large Hand Carved Wood Thoroughbred Race Horse Type by Helmut Diller This is a gorgeous woodcarving of a bay Thoroughbred type stallion done by the famous ANRI of Italy and Helmut Diller. It stands 7 inches tall. 8 inches long and 2 inches wide, and is in great condition with very rich coloring. I adore this piece and had the left eartip professionally restored. There is an area on the left shoulder that has a rougher appearance under the paint that looks to be original, but I wanted to mention it and have tried to show it in the pictures. Rare REUGE Carved Wood w/ inlays Rotating Plate Swiss Music box Swedish Rhapsody. This listing is for a fine hand carved Swiss Hardwood Plate rotating pedestal music box. The plate or low bowl measures 9 1/2" in diameter and has a notched carved edge and beautiful hand carved floral center. There are several small scratches and marks on the top of the wood plate as seen in the pictures. The plate stands on a 5" wooden pedestal base that is fitted with a Swiss Reuge music box. There is a lever switch at the side to start the music playing. As the music plays the top plate rotates. The music plays well and can be heard. Occasionally. This auction is for an original"Havana Brown De Luxe" wooden cigar box. The finger jointed. Wood box is in very good original condition. Interior labels are in excellent condition. The incised IDs. Caution and Tax Paid notices are clear and easy to read As the law required the Caution Notice. The factory number and tax district are repeated on the bottom of the box. The box measures 7 1/2" L) x 6 1/2" W) x 3 1/2" H) It has a Type V Factory ID with notice which was used between 1910 and 1959. The 5 cent tax stamp. Which is ~4" long, wraps only on the top and front of the box places the box in the 1920’s or 1930’s. The Type IV latch was common from the 1930’s forward. Here is a 13 inch wood and composition doll. She is a Schoenhut type character doll. She has wooden blue eyes with real eyelashes. An open mouth and teeth. She is missing a few eyelashes on the left eye. She has flirty eyes which work fine. She has a break in the composition on her left hand finger. See pictures. She is cracked all over. She is wearing a black velvet skirt and a white red polkadot top. Shoes and socks, White undies and a black hair ribbon. She has a real hair wig. She is 13 inches tall. Vintage Wood Spinning Top Antique Pull Type RARE
This auction is for an vintage pull wooden spinning top toy. The handle measures about 7 inches tall while the spinning top part measures around 4 inches tall that's including the stem. The original string is missing and right now there is a black shoe lace taking its place which probably works better than the original string that was once attach to it. Please take a look at the photos for a better description this looks like a well taken care of but played with spinning top. It does have an old stamp on it that looks to say Japan. Modern Looking Mid Century Orange Lounge Chair Wood Danish Type Retro
The following auction is for a vintage orange cushioned wooden chair. It is unmarked.And I am unsure of who made it. I am not trying to trick or deceive you, I truly just don't know. If you happen to know for sure what the maker is please email me and let me know. The chair is used and shows some wear. Its a bit dusty and needs to be cleaned up. The chair shows some wear. I don't know if these are the original cushions or not. This is the way we received the chair. There are some scratches in the wood. A few are a little deeper than others. They are mostly on the arms and sides of the chair. It looks like it was repaired with a longer bolt on the left side arm. It looks to have been reattached with a nut The cushions have some light stains. The one pic shows the backside of the cushions. The one has a spot where it looks like glue ... morewas spilled. Luckily it was on the bottom of the pad. The one pad is made of material the other is vinyl. The vinyl one has a stain on it.But again,its on the back. The bottom cushion has a 6 inch tear along the seam. Its just tore along the seam. You could sew it up and probably not notice it The chair has springs built in to the bottom. The brown flap is just a cover that goes over the springs. The springs are still intact. A great old sturdy chair. I am not sure if you could hide the repair in the arm.But its pretty neat. VTG Frye Type Tall Tan Leather Wood Heel Campus Boots Sz 7 Hippie Boho Biker
Beautiful campus style leather boots. Frye boots are the best. I think. I have a few pairs of Frye boots and these have one thing they don't: a wider calf. So you can tuck pants in them or wear thicker, warmer knee socks. They have elastic on the inside so they will fit snugly whether your calf is bigger or smaller. They have stacked wooden heels and leather soles. Frye boots are getting harder and harder to come by. So the prices keep rising. These are a less expensive alternative. They are a size 7. But they fit more like a 7 1/2. They have that gorgeous vintage leather patina. They ARE at least 30 years old. So expect them to have the things that make them beautiful and unique, little flaws here and there. It definitely does not detract from their beauty. The heels were replaced by me. So they will last a while. They have a small rub ... moremark on the inside of the shaft of the right boot about 6" up from the arch. It's not noticeable when they are worn. Nine out of eleven drawers have at least some contents in them. Most are quite full. I was not able to include a picture of every drawer because I am only allowed 12 pictures in the listing.
