How color separations were created back in the Letterpress printing days. Both blocks are identically the same size. Approximately 3 Inches Wide by 3 ¾ Inches in length by ¾ Inch in depth. The left block pictured above would print the red stripes of the Flag and the block pictured to the left. Would be used to print the blue around the stars. Of course. Very rare tiny wooden letterpress printing blocks in box These wooden characters are extremly rare and nowadays more than hard to find. The box came from France and should date from around 1920/1930. The lid is broken in two pieces. But the characters are in good condition. An exceptionnel opportunity for a collector to acquire an outstanding and very rare set of wooden characters. As wooden characters in this height were very unusual. In this height the characters nearly all have been made out of lead. We have counted more than 450 pieces. We hope, that we did not make any mistake on counting, but you will see, what you get on the close-up photos below. Each character measures only 11 mm: 0.43 inch. The box measures about 40x21 cm- 15.75x8.27 inch. We have removed some dust. But did no full cleaning. However, as you can see on the photos, ... morethe printing blocks are in good condition. It has a nice size handle. Varnished& with the same type of washer and nail head. The measurements are: approx: 4.25" t x 2.5" w x 4" w It is in good used condition. It has a few dents or scratches to the exterior surface. And the top edge has tiny chips along the edge that are subtle, but there and must be mentioned. The inside bottom has excess ink from pens. In EXCELLENT condition with two minor surface scratches on finish(nothing to take away from piece) I believe this is a reproduction of the Russian Parquetry art work. I had the piece of paper on the back translated by a Russian co-worker and he said: Piece done on Leningrad ship plant name of A.A. Gdano. Name of art work"White Knight" it could be night with a N) was done May 26. 1982 Price 30 Rubles. Piece depicts what I would say is a typical Russian Leiningrad city landscape. With water, bridge, momument with Horseman and wonderful architecture of the building. This piece would look great in a Library, or in your family room or den. I really do not know what type of art form this is. I can say it is done ... morevery nicely, looks absolutely beautiful. The piece(frame) is very well constructed- the back of piece is a heavy thick beveled wood, edged with a gold toned metal frame. The hangers are cut into wood back for a secure attachment point. Which would be a great addition to any wood block type collection. This is a collection of Antique Tuscan wood block type with all capital letters. Featuring classic, concave curved and pointed serifs. Also, you will find a dash, ampersand and exclamation mark among this collection with similar features. There are no numbers included with this block type offer. All are displayed in the photo. The unique type includes a Q that is a descender even though the type are all Capital Letters. Plus, an X& Y with a unique internal curvature in the shape of a heart. See Photo) This type comes from my Grandfather’s old commercial printing shop that was ... moreclosed in the early 1970’s after his death and the beginning of the revolutionary offset printing process. My Grandfather started working in the printing business in the early 1900’s for an existing commercial printing business/newspaper. He eventually purchased years later. This is a used collection of block type. No manufacturer markings have been found on the blocks. May be worn off after years of use. The wood blocks have not been cleaned since they were taken from the printing shop. Some type may still have ink residue on them and a little print shop sawdust… left them alone to preserve their historic and print shop feel. This is a well used collection of type, some letters used more than others, they have scrapes, cuts and imperfections… please observe the photos for more details. Another unique feature is on one of the blocks you can tell they started to carve a letter. Made an error, then, created the letter on the opposite side of the block. All blocks with the exception of the letter“Q” are each approximately 1 5/8 Inches tall. The letter“Q” which is a descender is approximately 2 1/16 Inches tall. See photo) The widths of the blocks vary according to the letter.

Japanese Type 38 Arisaka Carbine Wood Handguard Series 2 Kokura - Good Shape!
Up for auction is an original wood hand guard for the Japanese Type 38 Arisaka carbine. It does not have the original finish. But is in good to very good shape. There was a small hairline crack near the nose of the cap that was epoxied together. Also, the piece that slides under the front band retainer has been replaced. It looks like the original was missing and a curved piece of steel was put in its place. It cannot be seen once installed on the rifle and looks like a very solid repair overall. This is off a series 2 Kokura arsenal carbine and stamped on the inside with a Japanese kanji and assembly number 974, then a second small kanji to the right of the number. Japanese Type 38 Arisaka Carbine Original Wood Stock - Nagoya Series 5 - Nice!
Up for auction is a very nice original wood stock for the Japanese Type 38 Arisaka carbine. Unknown if original Urushi finish. But it has a varnish coating on it. It does not look like it has been sanded at all as the contours are very sharp and the original inspection marks under the butt are intact(see photos) It comes complete with the rear barrel band retainer and installed stock bushings. The inside of the forearm is stamped with a large"W" typical of Nagoya arsenal stocks. There are no cracks in the wood, but a few minor gouges scattered here and there which can be expected on a 70+ year old battle rifle. This came off a Series 5 Nagoya carbine. This will not fit the long rifle version, only the carbine. No international sales please. Any questions feel free to ask.
