An exceptionnel ... moreand very rare blackletter type set. We have counted 223 pieces. We hope, that we did not make any mistake on counting, but you will see, what you get on the close-up photos below. As you will see on the detailed photos below. There are lower case, upper case, numbers, punctuation, diacritics(Umlauts) digraphs, accents- just all! We have not found even one character missing- we think it is a complete set. Each character measures 54 mm: 2.13 inch and 54 mm: 2.52 inch for those with descenders. We have removed some dust. But did no full cleaning. However, as you can see on the photos, the printing blocks are in an excellent condition, not used very often. The characters were stored up to now in drawers, this is a gorgeous and exceptionnel set of characters. Please be sure, that a carefull packaging will be done for the characters, so nothing will hurt the characters on transport. For detailed pictures see below. We have already seen a lot of wood printing blocks, but never before so big ones. And an AMPERSAND in this height is nearly impossible to find. This ampersand was made out of 2 pieces. Offering: Largest size wedge style(No. 2 Hempel) letterpress quoins. Includes six pair of 4 inch Challenge Co. Also known as No. 2 Hempel wedge style quoin and Jumbo, which is the largest of three sizes that this style of quoin was made in. Two pieces or halves are required to lock up a form in a chase. This larger quoin is ideal for locking up larger press sizes as well as Proof press beds. Length of quoin is approx. 4 inches long. The No. 2 quoin key included will only work on a No. 2 quoin, as the teeth on the quoins are at a different distance apart. The third and forth picture are of one side and the flip side of the quoins. If the teeth get chewed up as they some times do from heavy use in large print shops the quoins will become useless because the quoins cannot be tightened properly. Howdy Folks, Hope all is well. Up for your viewing or auctioning pleasure is a printing block. The block is marked I.P.E.U. 295. The picture is of a Cardinal I think? not sure. I used a flash it showed the dry ink on the block so it will need to be cleaned better. Marked on the wood BA 119. No other markings. Since it is a used printing block there could be some scratches and scuffs and nicks. I used some mild soap and water with a soft brush. However they will need to be cleaned better.
