The box came from France and should date from around 1920/1930. An exceptionnel opportunity for a collector to acquire an outstanding and very rare set of wooden characters. Letterpress printer's type cabinet measures appx 25 inches wide by 24 inches deep 44" tall. Flat Top. It has 25 partitioned drawers. Plenty of room for type or organizing scrapbook materials. Screws, collectibles etc. The drawers pull out completely so you can carry them to where you are working. It is a medium oak color.The cabinet is primarily oak. I don't know what type of wood the back and drawer partitions are made of. Hamilton cast drawer pulls in really good condition. You can see from the photos that there is wear. Various nicks and marks on the cabinet but overall it is in good condition and I think it's really quite clean when compared with similar cases. This is a complete font of an uncommon gothic Tuscan style of wood type from the late 1800s. It is shown in the Vanderburgh. Wells& Co. catalog of 1877 as Teutonic and I believe this font was produced by them, or by Heber Wells(son of Darius Wells) after he bought out the partnership. That these letters have been made around 1900 or even before and that these letters should be handcarved. Please check carefully the detailed pictures so you can form your own oppinion. We have counted 57 pieces. We hope, that we did not make any mistake on counting, but you will see, what you get on the close-up photos below. A very nice set which is a gain for every collection. Cleaned Font of 12 Point Brush (ATF #689) Vintage Letterpress Lead Metal Type
This auction is for a hand cleaned font of 12 Point Brush letterpress lead type(ATF#689) which includes Caps. Lower Case, Numbers and Punctuation, cast by American Type Founders. Type has not been used by me, and had been used only fairly lightly by the previous owner. Just about all of the font cleaned up very well. A few pieces remained dark, although I can assure they are clean. See photos for more visual information. Photo#4 is a reverse(mirror) image for ease in identifying the individual characters. Please note that I inserted a missing capital"R" in front of the lower case r's after finding it. Count should be correct. Note also that each of the script letters has a standard letter imbedded on the face corresponding to it in case of confusion in reading the typeface.
