Sons of Union Veterans Seal Embosser Dr M M Fenner Camp Fredonia NY Fraternal
I am offering for sale another great piece of Fredonia NY history. This is a desk top seal embosser for the DR M.M. FENNER CAMP NO 71. This camp is actually a fraternal organization for the Sons of Union Veterans of the Civil War(SUVCW) The stamp die has DR M.M. FENNER CAMP NO. 71 SONS of VETERANS U.S.A along the top rim of the seal and FREDONIA NY in the inner circle. The inner circle also has the American Eagle with the 13 stars surrounding it. Above the eagle is what looks like a word or phrase. But I can not make it out. Under the eagle is the date 1881 in roman numerals. I have a scan of the seal pressed on to white printer paper included in the photos. The one impression I did a pencil rubbing in order to try and get a clearer scan. The die is in great condition giving a wonderful strong impression. The seal measures about 2 inches ... moreacross. The embosser is made of cast iron and would have been mounted to a desk. The press is about 11 3/4 inches tall with the handle upright. The base is about 6 1/2 inches long by 2 1/4 inches wide. There is quite a few paint chips to the black paint of the press, but it adds to the character of the piece. There is also a single gold star on each side of the press. I am not 100% sure of the age of this piece, but I can narrow it down to a certain decade. I did some research and found little on the camp itself. Dr. Milton M Fenner was a prominent businessman and Eclectic Medical Doctor with many of his elixirs being shipped world wide and made locally in Fredonia NY where he lived. Dr Fenner died in 1905 and the camp bearing his name was organized in 1913. Going back to the seal itself, the die has the date of 1881 on it. This is the year that the fraternal organization Sons of Veterans U.S.A was organized. The fraternal order was composed of sons of union veterans of the Civil War and became an auxiliary to the GAR or Grand Army of the Republic. In 1925 the organization changed their name from Sons of Veterans U.S.A to Sons of Union Veterans of the Civil War or SUVCW. This

I am offering for sale a great unusual piece of local history. This auction is for a seal/embosser hand press for the White Inn. Fredonia NY. The press is in nice working order and the die is complete and in great condition. The die says THE WHITE INN, INC along the top and FREDONIA NY along the bottom. The middle of the die states Incorporated in 1941. The outside ring is in a rope design and the inner ring is a beaded rope design. The die still produces a strong impression that is clearly readable. I have uploaded a press made on regular whate printer paper. The scan did not pick it up well, but hopefully you can get an idea of what it looks like. The actual press is much stronger and better defined. The press measures about 10 inches high with the handle straight up. The base measures about 5 1/2 inches long by 2 inches wide. The paint ... moreis pretty good overall with just a few chips here and there. Just enough to set off that vintage look. I don't really know the exact age of this item, but I am guessing that it would be from the time when the Maloney's owned the Inn. This is truly a great one of kind unique item that was once part of one of the most iconic establishments in the region. There is a drawer and inside is a complete of Steel Stamps. They range from A to Z and also“Period Stamps” JR. SR. Mc. Stamps” 2 Blank Stamps. Each Letter Stamp has 3 for each letter. There is also a pair of Tweezers and some gold leaf sheets that were left. The Lid of the Box is marked: Designed so they do not require periods or spaces between letters. Periods are supplied if you prefer“DURA CAST TYPE” Best For Hot Stamping. The Top portion is Cast Steel and the bottom is a hard wood, I think it is walnut. The Drawer has dove tail joints.
