Some folks can pull it off, but I'm not always as crafty as I would like to be. The actual printing area is lead. Tacked onto a wooden block with tiny nails. 1917 Letter Press Printer's Block, NYIDD, 1st Military School for Deaf in World
1917 letter press printer's block for the New York Institution for the Instruction of the Deaf& Dumb. The first military school for the deaf in the world, chartered in 1817 and opened in 1818. The side and back are dated with a stamp: February 28. 1917, so this was obviously used for something to do with a 100th anniversary commemoration. The address was Fort Washington Ave& West 163rd Street in NYC. Near Riverside Drive. The top of the block has a photo of students(possibly some faculty) All dressed in uniforms. Inasmuch, this printing blocks logo was in use between roughly 1914 and 1967. This block is at least 45 years old. This letterpress metal and wood printing block measures 0.92" deep by 1.2" high by 0.97" wide and weighs approximately 1.4 ounces(39 grams) This stamp is a professionally made. This antique printer's block is from the 18th Infantry regiment and features the Latin phrase"In Omnio Paratus" which translates to"Ready for All Things" or"Ready for Anything. It was the motto of the United States Army's 18th Infantry Regiment and features their logo of crossed swords and a flame on top of a shield. It measures 2 1/2" X 2 1/4" X 7/8" and is made of wood and steel. The condition is excellent.
