A windmill must be the proper size and capable of developing enough lifting power to lift a heavy column of water in addition to heavy steel sucker rod or waterlogged wood sucker rods. Lifting power is a factor of wheel size/ wind gathering ability and must be properly matched to the weight of a given column of water, etc. The water's weight is determined by the size of a wells drop pipe& cylinder plus its height of lift.
