Normal 0 false false false EN-US X-NONE X-NONE General Electric Monitor Amplifier Model 4BA34A-1 These solid state GE audio amplifiers were designed for either driving speakers at 8 ohms or a 600 ohm load such as a telephone line. At the time of their original sale the custom was for this type unit to be about 10 watts output when driving speakers. Q8 and Q9. 2N2144, are the power output transistors and, since of similar type, I assume that the design is a semi-quasi complimentary type reminiscent to the Spectra Sonics power amp design. The unit is intended to be shelf mounted with other similar material and all connections are on the back. The unit is AC powered and power connection is via a standard NEMA 5-15 plug. Audio in and out is via an 8 contact male‘blue ribbon’ skirt connector. The unit pictured is marked: Pins 1 and 5 = 600 ohms ... moreinput Pins 4 and 8 = 600 ohms out Altogether there are 10 transistors in the circuit including a pass type voltage regulator(2N456A) Maximum usable gain is assumed to be in the 60 db range. The very healthy power transformer has 120 or 240 volt primary(wired for 120 volt presently) The input transformer is manufactured by ADC and is of the low level type rated to peak levels of-20 db input. Input windings can be strapped for 150 or 600 ohms(the pictured unit appears to be wired for 600 ohms with a fixed‘H’ pad ahead of it) The output winding is marked 2400 ohms. The output transformer is also an ADC and is marked +- ½ db response between 30 and 15000 Hz at 10 watts output. A most interesting transformer as the primary is 8 ohms and the output can be wired 8 or 600 ohms! is wired for 600 ohms presently) Of the two units. One is slightly better cosmetically(pictured here) and I have inspected it. Since I have no schematic, I assume that the regulator output of 48 volts is correct as the pilot light appears to be about the correct level of luminance.
