First let me say I couldn't add all the pic's that I wanted cause of the size of them but will describe it the best that I can. The iron is grooved or comb on the bottom. It measures 6 1/2 inches across and 10 1/2 inches long. I cleaned the bottom tray as much as I could. Iron works great and gets very hot. It does have the heat range switch by the handle and it does work. My dad was a Master Carpet Layer for over 30 yrs. experience. I lost dad a while ago and selling off his tools I don't know the craft like he did so I don't try. I am including one of his tool box's with it.
