Dirt or signs of wear- it appears brand new. Basically, what this device does is allow you to check Cat5, Cat5e, Cat6, etc. network cables. The tester has two jacks into which you connect the cable to be tested. You push the test button and it tells you if your cable is good or bad(open, short, miswired) It is very simple and fast.
