The HP-3586C is fully HP-IB programmable and covers the frequency range of 50 Hz to 32.5 MHz, allowing measurement of audio, sonar, and other low frequency systems as well as high frequency communications sub-systems. Input impedances of 50, 75, or 600 ohm are provided with 10 kohm bridging for maximum measurement flexibility in a wide variety of applications. Signal levels are measured with up to ± 0.2 dB accuracy down to-80dBm with.01dB resolution and bandwidth choices of 20. 400, or 3100 Hz. The built-in[frequency] counter and narrow-resolution bandwidth allowharmonic and intermodulation measurements ... moreto be made with ease. This unit is considered among the best VLF(very low frequency) receivers by people who are interested in that range of radio frequencies or in the natural phenomena that produce VLF radio waves. No error codes were displayed, as are shown on some other 3586 units for sale. This is a relatively late production unit with a 2907 serial number prefix. This means produced in 1989 which was the 9th or 10th year of its 12 years in the HP Catalog. I have not attempted to run the full test as described in the manuals. But all the buttons and controls work fine. This unit includes Option 4. The high stability frequency reference, with the oven. The one known problem with these 3586s is that the back-up battery for the programming settings leaks. It is mounted on the A80 power supply board. This one had leaked slightly. I unsoldered it without damage. Carefully cleaned the board. The leakage did not reach the board connector and did not affect any components on the board, nor did it damage the traces.
