WW II BRITISH ARMY RAF BRODIE ARMY HELMET NORTH AFRICA PAINT 1943
The helmet has a very rough application of desert tan paint. The shell is solid but has surface rust on both sides of the shell. There are also 3 evenly spaced spaced holes about the size of a pencil point that have been drilled where the brim meets the dome. The liner is dry and needs cleaned but it is stil all there and pliable. There is paper around the liner that I assume is there from when these helmets were stacked for storage. The cord. Crown and wool pad are all present and servicable. The crown is stamped"Something" Hand 1943 and has the broad arrow inside of a"U" The chin strap springs are rusty but they still work and the strap and hardwear are intact. The title page gives the publisher as: Shanghai. North-China Daily News& Herald Ltd. and a publication date of 1934. The text does not clarify the position of the author. Whether military member or civilian, but it would appear that the author is a civilian seaman, possibly British. The book measures approx. 6.25" x 4.25" x.25" and contains 50 pages. There are six photos. The text is a vivid, descriptive observation of a journey by boat along the river lasting about 5- 7 days. Information about ports. This antique map of North& South Uist of Scotland was done by John Bartholomew out of Edinburgh. They were in business in the early 1900s. I believe it came out of an atlas or book of maps. It is 6 1/2" by 4 3/8" It is in color and in good condition as it has been preserved by placing it on 1/8" thick poster board and enclosing it in shrink wrap.

Nazi Germany WWII Occupied Soviet Union- North Russia Pleskau Pskov Ostarbeiter Summons This is a very scarce original summons to a local Pskov man to appear before a Work Office(Arbeitsamt) official. This usually meant that this person was designated to be sent to Germany(conscripted) for forced labor. Bad omen. Ostarbeiter(Eastern Worker) was a designation for slave workers gathered from Eastern Europe to do forced labor in Germany during World War II. The Ostarbeiters were mostly from the territory of Reichskommissariat Ukraine(eastern Ukraine) Ukrainians made up the largest portion although many Belarusians. Poles, Russians, and others were also present. Estimates put the number of Ostarbeiters between 3 million and 5.5 million. Some estimates place the number as high as 8.5 million workers. As more and more German men were sent to the ... morewar. The need for slave labor on domestic factories and farms had been steadily increasing. Most Ostarbeiters were very young. Under the age of 16, as those older than 16 were usually conscripted. 30% were as young as 12–14 years of age when they were taken to Germany. By November 1943 the age limit was dropped to 10. 50% of those taken from Ukraine were girls and women. Ostarbeiters from Reichskommissariat Ukraine were forced to wear a dark blue and white badge with"OST" written on it. The German word for east in upper-case letters. The Summons is marked"Urgent" The person being summoned- Vasilij Nazarow- is instructed to bring all personal documents with him. It must have been very clear to Vasilij what was in store for him. Bold signature in black pen at lower right. Document size 9.5" by 15" on rag-content bond paper. Mildly age toned, overall very fine condition. William Augustus Devin(1871–1959) was an American jurist who served as an Associate Justice and Chief Justice of the North Carolina Supreme Court. A native of Granville County, North Carolina, Devin, a Democrat, earned his undergraduate degree at Wake Forest College and his law degree at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. Devin served as mayor of Oxford, North Carolina from 1903 until 1909 and was a captain in the North Carolina National Guard. He was elected to one term(1911–1913) in the North Carolina House ... moreof Representatives from Granville.
