Another Dan West Auction Rare Photo 50th Iowa1898 at Jacksonville. Fl Swamp Camp Here offered is another very rare photo of the 50th Iowa Infantry basically from Lee County. Iowa. This photo shows a camp scene in the swamp and rather strange a soldier in the middle of the photo on stilts. Also the soldier must have had something on his pants or something strange as it appears to be scratched off over his mid-section and maybe even a Skull drawn there. It's rather strange anyway. You can take a look at the photo. Perhaps you'll know. This photo measures appx. 3 7/8" x 5 1/2" and is pretty clear as you can see in our photos. It is attached to a photo card with a 3/4" tear along the right side and edges bumped and rubbed. This cabinet card photo was originally part of a group of the 50th we are listing here on eBay for ... moresale. We have 4 different lots listed here on eBay. So Please check all of them out. This photo actually shows a bit of camp life in the just post Indian War into the Span-Am period The 50th. 49th and 51st Iowa National Guard were all sent to the South to prepare for fighting in the Span-Am arena. The 50th was sent to Jacksonville, Florida and camped basically in swamp. Many of the young men contracted Typhoid Fever, over 30 died and between 100-300 was sick at any given time. Notice the mud and water puddles in the camp, thus the reason the soldier was on stilts. Finally the Regiment was moved to higher ground, too late and did not help much and the Regiment was finally sent home to Iowa to recover, mustering out in September of 1889. This cabinet photo was with a grouping of one of the young men who apparently or perhaps died in Jacksonville, Florida and his body sent home. In another auction we have a newspaper article of his funeral which is dated Sept. 19th, 1899 and is an original, not a reproduction and was quite the fanfare in Fort Madison, Iowa. Thousands turned out for this young man's funeral, flags flew at half staff and so much more told about in the newspaper a

VINTAGE PAIR OF SHUJAX ADJUSTABLE STILTS
This is an old pre-owned pair of Shujax adjustable stilts. They were in a shed at an estate sale& seem to be OK but need a little TLC. One leg strap is wider that the other& missing one bolt on left thigh clamp& the 2 foam pads. Right one needs rear boot strap. Right shaft is adjusted about 1" taller than left& not sure how far out they adjust to. As in the pictures you can see the foot pads all look good with little wear.

Here is a pair of very good condition used Dura Stilts Model D14-22. Adjustment is from 14" to 22" above the floor. They have been cleaned to remove any dirt or"mud" All the parts are in very good condition showing little wear. Ready to use. These stilts have many uses. Such as drywall installing, painting, installing insulation, any job that needs extra height for the worker. I am including the Dura Stilts Instruction and Parts Manual which has the info on how to properly use, adjust, and repair these items. Replacement parts are easy to find. These are the full height adjustable Stilts from Marshalltown. These are the skywalker 2.0 series and are adjustable from 24 to 40 inches in height. They have only been used for about 5 months. I bought them new and got hurt on the job 5 months later and they haven't been used since. My injury prevents me from doing drywall anymore so now I'm selling them. There is absolutely nothing wrong with these stilts. All the clasps work and are not damaged or loose. The leg pads are intact and fully padded. Foot plates and straps are tight and not damaged. The springs and joints are all tight and in perfect working order. The foot soles show hardly any wear and are in very good shape. like I said. These were only used for a short period of time. PowerStrider pair of jumping stilts. Good used condition. Spring ends labeled 78, which is the upper end of weight limit of 78 kg = 170 lbs, making weight range 150-170 lbs. Some foam broken on padding as pictured. PowerStrider old M model, but surprisingly in good shape. Most of the parts are replaceable. PowerStrider actually closed their operations here in the US a few years back, but a company called Air Trekker still carries products from the same factory in China, with compatible parts. Because all stilts are made from the same patent license, the fitting of parts is largely the same across brands and models. For example, many have fitted the 7s Springs for their better responsiveness and the 7s hoof rods because they last longer when used on a hard surface.
