Oct 2, 1862 Confederate $100 Civil War Note T-40, train with diffused steam
A $100 bill from the Confederate States of America. Issude October 2nd. 1862. This one has the train with diffused steam, a backstamp from Nov 10, 1862- Jackson, Miss, and two different"Interest Paid to" backstamps. This bill also has very faint fold marks but the paper is very crisp. I'm guessing this would be described as Almost Uncirculated. The margins around the note are not bad- I've certainly seen a lot worse. I'm no expert in grading paper currency so I'll just supply pictures and answer questions and leave the rest to you. From our closed Prolab Condenser assembly originally from a Pakotronic 75 printer. The particularity of this condenser assembly is that it's flat surfaces are diffused while the inside condenser lenses are polished as normal set. i suppose they wanted high performance condensing/light concentrating action but light diffusion to reduce spotting. The Wollensak Verito Diffused Focus lens was popular almost from its start in 1911 and remained in catalogues up to about 1950. It was a 3 element doublet design that was light in weight and was readily available in a Wollensak shutter. The Verito's of 1911 and early 1912 were f/5 in speed. But by the 1912/1913 Catalogue the Verito was slightly modified and updated to f/4 in speed, which made it even more attractive as a portrait lens. In 1920. It was updated again and the Photo-Era Magazine of January 1920, ... morewrote, During the past ten years, the Wollensak Optical Company of Rochester, N.Y. has probably done more to popularize soft-focus photography than any other firm in the optical industry. I can only see a few tiny clenaing marks on the surfaces and some very slight edge separation in the rear group. Though this will not affect quality. Lens is mounted in a No. 3 Wollensak Studio shutter/diaphragm. The diaphragm stops down smoothly and shows no oil on it. I also do not see any haze on the lenses see a white speck in the center of the front lens. Not on outside and definitely not a scratch. The lens is still mounted to the wood flange. Also come with the Wollensak front lens cover that is in nice shape with a purple velour inside. The shutter moves freely when using the switch on the side of the lens body. ... moreThe body has a serial number of"4679" on the chrome ring that goes around the piece. Also has"No. 3" on the body. On the other side of the body it says"STUDIO" and"Patent March 12. 1907" This may even be the original box. No marking on it. But appears to be perfect for the lens. Some watermarks on the box and wear at the corners, but still intact. Do not see another lens available online that has the box coming with it. The lens with flange is 6" tall. This pair of embossed Paul Jones decanter-bottles is from Frankfort Distilleries in Baltimore. Maryland. Frankfort was established soon after prohibition ended in the 30s. They were bottled in the mid 1950s The main labels identify them as containing Paul Jones Distilled Dry Gin. 4'5 quart, 90 proof. Labels are composed of both metal and paper and the lettering is slightly raised. One of the labels is slightly lifted at one corner and minutely torn in the middle area. The paper neck labels identify the seller as the George Starr Liquor Shop at 148 East Post Road in White Plains. NY. The phone number displayed is W hite P lains 461(WP461) That early phone number exchange also helps to date these bottle-decanters. The original cork and stopper is on one of the decanters. The cork from the other decanter is inside but ONE glass stopper is ... moremissing. These have always been owned by my family and I don't know when the glass stopper was misplaced. The bottles have embossed-raised designs that resemble vines. They are not clear glass.I would describe the glass as'diffused' and beautiful. I have shown the discoloration on the base in photos 10 and 11. It is probably from sitting on shelves or it could be from the dried residue of gin inside. The minor damage on one of the labels is consistent with the vintage age as is the base discoloration. This is a fine pair of vintage Paul Jones decanter-bottles. It is very unusual to have one.let alone a pair! This bubbler comes complete with four 14mm insert bowl pieces, two standard bowl pieces and two glass screen pieces, and a case for safe storage.
