Brass piece on top reads"Chadwick Carroll 1941 Lamp Aiming M.G MK III Hamilton Canada" It has a chain pull switch and am amber/yellow lens under a leather strap. My information is that it was used with a WW1 Vickers. Used at night as an aiming point. The box would be placed out several meters from the gun position off to the side of the line of fire. The string reel would be attached to the switch and run back to the gun so the light could be turned on and off as needed. On the bottom of the box is a leather strap holding a claw foot. The foot was released and pressed into the ground to keep the box stable.Sold as shown in photos.I don't know if it is complete or not.

Unissued, unblancoed, British Army 1937 PATTERN VICKERS AMMO BOX CARRIER(DOUBLE VERSION) This pack is open at the top and has two compartments. To enable two Vickers Ammo Boxes to be carried. It has a lumbar support pad on the inside lower part, and a pair of built-in L-Straps to enable it to be carried on the back. It has straps built in on the base to prevent the boxes dropping through. This piece of equipment is well illustrated and explained in the reference books'Equipment of the WWII Tommy' by David Gordon(page 43) and the book'The World War II Tommy: British Army Uniforms, European Theatre, 1939-45' by Brayley& Ingram(page 91) Although this example is dated 1955 it is identical to those issued during WW2, and ... moreeven has brass closures and fittings(see photos below) T hese would have been worn by a range of forces.
