Hand Carved Wooden Hot-Air Balloon Gustave?
Here is a great piece for your hot-air balloon collection or just a wonderful decor piece! It is a wooden carving painted with wonderful pastel stripes and comes complete with eight side ropes attaching the balloon to the basket. It is signed by"Gustave" and also has"Mexico" painted on it. I know it is very old because it was in my parents home for as long as I can remember. There is a slight crack in the base but it does not affect the ability to"stand up" whatsoever. There is a study metal rod in the very top"cup" I don't know what used to be there but it appears to have had a purpose. The piece approximately is 9 1/4" tall and the largest point around the balloon is about 14 1/2" Good luck on this fabulous piece!

It cranks smoothly& doesn't sound like anything hanging up in the gear box. But before you use it, you should clean& update the grease in the box& repair or replace the front surround.

The dowing report reads: air fight eye witness report related to dowing by Lieutenant Eder on 29.5.43 at 5.45 pm 1. order: alarm start by order of squadron leader 3 2. report: I started on 29.5.43 by order of squadron leader 3 at the Rennes-St. Brieuc district. At 5.30 pm we had enemy contact in an altitude of 5000-6000 meters with approx. 100 to 150 Boeing Fortress II. Approx. 20 kilometers west of Guinkamp. The trumpet shaped bowl has a diameter of 4 1/4" at the time and tapers into an elongated trumpet shape, then into a beautiful air twist stem. Vintage woven straw hat- reminds me somewhat of a cowboy/ field hand hat. It measures about 13.5 inches deep from rim to rim and 12 inches wide from rim to rim. It has 4 air vents on each wide- 3 at the top and one at the base. The hat is about 4 inches tall. It has a center dent. The circumference at the base is about 21 inches. There is a piece of leather on the underside of the hat that has the word"Medium" stamped on it. The hat is yellow in color on the top and straw colored underneath. There are red stripes on the underside of the edge of the rim and a little bit is showing through on the top edge of the rim as well. My guess is maybe this hat was painted yellow.
