A Late 19th Century antique microscope by Carl Zeiss Jena No. 41558.
A rather battered old microscope by Carl Zeiss Jena which I think dates to the late 19th Century. The serial number is. 41558. I don't know very much about these kinds of things but it seems to be fully functional apart from the little mirror which has some damage to the silvering. Especially on the concave side. All lenses are intact and unbroken. The body is made from brass and some kind of alloy. Most of the black paint is missing from the alloy. Please view the photographs. If you have any questions. Fantastic antique early Zeiss. ITS SOLID BRONZE TOP TO BOTTOM! IT has two Apochromat lenses! The coarse and fine focus knobs are both low on the upper part of the instrument's arm. X.Y adjuster built directly into the stage. The microscope has a non-inclined tube with a revolving quadruple, brass nosepiece. Coarse focus is by rack and pinion. Fine focus is by the Meyer geared slow-motion device operated by a two knobs, one having a divided drum. One interval on the drum corresponds to 0.002 mm of vertical motion of the optical assembly. I contacted Zeiss Germany. They have researched this microscope. The Carl Zeiss Jena microscope no. 154713 is a stand B, type d and was delivered to New York in 1925. Everything still works!
