There are a couple of places where the steel is slightly tarnished and slide holders are a little bent from years of use. There is also some very minor corrosion on them as well. The piece comes with several accessories such as two sets of eye pieces, the original tool to loosen the scope, to swivel on its base and the original bottle of oil to lube it's parts.All this and more is wrapped up in a timeless handcrafted wood box with lock and key. I don't think you could find a more splendid microscope from this era. A really beautiful tool for today or an awesome centerpiece. Zeiss part number is 44-40-39. If you look it up you will be shocked at the high price Zeiss charged for this optic. This is of course 30mm fitment. Since I no longer have an Axio stand it is of no use to me. This item will not work on a grey line or 160mm microscope stand as far as I know. Please be aware of this before bidding. This vintage CARL ZEISS microscope was manufactured around 1950 in Germany. This instrument is 11 1/2-inches high and sits on a round 6 1/4-inch base. It was designed to check the quality if lenses for eyeglasses/spectacles after manufacture. It comes equipped with a built-in. Working illumination system. The adjustment that controls the 8-inch horizontal plate is calibrated in millimeters. When viewing, the image has cross-hairs superimposed on a 0 to 180-degree semi-circular scale. With the light turned on, a circle of small green dots sits on top of the center of the cross-hairs, and a small illuminated circle appears with another scale from 0 to +25 and 0 to-25. The larger adjustment controls the focus and the illuminated circle setting. The smaller adjustment turns the circle scale on and off. However. I do not see any marks on the piece itself. Size: Box measures approx. 2.25" long x 1.75" wide x 1.5" tall Age: Probably dates to the early 1900's but I do not know for sure? Condition: Illuminator is in very good condition with some signs of age and use and the lens is a little dirty. Box is not in the best of shape as it is missing the bottom leather cover piece and the top piece has detached as well and the sides are starting to come loose.
