This set belonged to my father who was a pediatrition and retired over 40 years years ago. I found this in storage 2 years ago and replaced the battery and it works fine. Battery is rechargable. The charger is in the handle. I don't know exactly how old this set is. The# on the Ohthalmoscope is 25000. and the# on the Otoscope is 11600 if that helps at all. There is a small cylindar approx 1 inch long taped to the top of the case. Don't know what it is for but apparently it goes with the set.
