Item Description A Vintage Ophthalmoscope manufactured by Gowllands in England I believe dating from around 1940s to 1950s. This ophthalmoscope is used by an Optician to examine the eye and in particular the retina. This particular item would have been part of a larger boxed set. So would be useful as a replacement, spare or add to a collection of scientific instruments. The item works by holding it up to the eye and looking through the lens, which allows a professional to examine the eye. The type/ strength of the lens can be changed by turning the wheel on the central section and from what I can tell the lenses appear to be in good working condition. There are two adjustments on the unit. First is to move the light up/down and second to make the diameter of the light larger/smaller. Indirect comes with original halogen bulb. 25w/28v and a plug-in power supply. Cable length of the power supply is about 5.5’ feet. There is also a light control rheostat which comes with this unit. This set belonged to my father who was a pediatrition and retired over 40 years years ago. I found this in storage 2 years ago and replaced the battery and it works fine. Battery is rechargable. The charger is in the handle. I don't know exactly how old this set is. The# on the Ohthalmoscope is 25000. and the# on the Otoscope is 11600 if that helps at all. There is a small cylindar approx 1 inch long taped to the top of the case. Don't know what it is for but apparently it goes with the set.
