May electric ophthalmoscope, c. 1916
This is a May Ophthalmoscope manufactured by Wappler Electric Company of New Your. It carries a patent date of December 12. 1916. The optics turn easily and there is a slide button on the side for increasing/decreasing light intensity. As can be seen by the prongs on the ends of the cord, it was used with a battery for a power source. There are two spare bulbs included; I do not know if they work. The case, which measures 6” X 2.75” X 1.5” is in good condition; most of the Wappler name is worn off the top of the case.

Had this as a medical student and no longer need it. The batteries need to be replaced and can be bought online(just search"welch allyn 2.5 v rechargeable pocketscope battery" and you'll see lots of options ranging from around $30-$45) The otoscope and ophthalmoscope each take one battery. But you could also just buy one battery and then switch the heads since the bases are interchangeable. Good luck!

Excellent condition Ophthalmoscope and Otoscope combination from Heine. Barely used. Powered by two AA batteries. Which I will include. Please note, you will have to turn the top battery around to make it turn on(helps save battery life) As you can see from the photo. There is only 1 blue cover and 4 black covers for the otoscope, so you will probably want to buy some extras. This is great to have for international medical work(because it's portable. Small, and battery operated) And/or it's a cheaper way to own an otoscope/ophthalmoscope as required by your medical school, even though you will hardly ever need to use your own.
