Advances in science and a growing interest in science fiction marked mid-century America. So it is no surprise that a popular“boys” gift in the 1960s was a microscope. Usually accompanied by prepared slides, like these, to jumpstart a budding scientist. The 12 prepared microscope slides of starch grains in this vintage Tasco set include: potato; sweet potato; rice; barley; wheat; Indian corn; bean; broad bean; red bean; pea. Braken(I think this is a type of large fern and should be spelled“bracken” and arrowroot. My research indicates that George Rosenfield founded Tasco in 1954. I believe this set likely dates to the 1960s. The box has a wooden slide holder. The slides measure about 2-3/8 inches by 3/4 inches. This is a Microscope that has sat in my attic for many years. It is still in its original box and can zoom in at different levels(300x.200x,100x) It is from the well known company Tasco. This is a gray microscope slide tray. This is the tray only. There are no slides with it. When opened. The tray has space for two columns of 50 slides each. The bottom of the tray is lined with a thin layer of cork. The other side of the box has a completely blank chart meant for labeling the slides. When closed. The box can be latched shut with the clasp(see photos) The trays may have small scuff marks from moving them. But nothing else. They are in very good condition. Antique Lacquered Brass Microscope on Iron Base in Case w/ Slides etc VGC & FWO
Description An Antique Lacquered Brass Microscope on its Cast Iron Base and in its Hardwood Case. This comes with a pair of Brass Tweezers and two Slides, all of which I take to to be contemporary with the Microscope. I would date this to the late 19th/ early 20th Century. This does work very well as shown. T here is no dust or anything else detrimental to the view so the end result is that it focuses clearly. All the Lenses are in good order. including the internal ones which are all present) with very minor surface wear and with no cracks or major damage. The Manual Sliding Focus Section works well. The Mirror is in good order and moves freely. There are no dents or major damage to the Metalwork. Just normal signs of age and use as in some slight surface wear, patina and a few blemishes. There are no structural issues at all with this'Scope. ... moreAnything designed to move does so freely and its threaded components run cleanly and tighten well. The Wooden Case is structurally intact with some minor wear but with no significant damage. The Hook Catches work but are not particularly secure so I wouldn't lift it by the Lid. Tasco Microscope Projection Kit #1580 with Specimen Slides 1972
This is from an estate sale- it's an apparatus that fits on top of certain microscopes so that the image in the microscope is projected onto a little screen. So that groups can view what's in the microscope. We're talking about a small index card size image. This includes six specimen slides, see photo above of what they are. This apparatus has not been tested. I have no idea what the magic marker numbers on top of the box means!
