Vintage Gurley Price Pygmy water current flow meter
This is a Price Pygmy water flow meter made by Gurley Instruments. This is designed for measuring flow velocity in small and shallow streams. Comes with everything seen in the photos: Original box with fitted holders for flow meter. And extra pivot bearings. Extra pivot bearings, Original rating table, The instrument is in fully functional condition but would require calibration for reliable data. Cups spin freely. Surfaces are clean and bright. These things are built like a Rolls Royce, so this will make a good collectible as is, or with minimal maintenance be ready to go back into the field. From what I found on the internet this is the head of an instrument used to measure water flow in a stream. Last calibrated by US Army May 22. 1979. Includes a high quality oak case. The precisely balanced Bucket Wheel mounts on a vertical pivot inside a yoke and rotates by water flow. Each rotation of the Bucket Wheel produces an audible click which users monitor either manually with a headset or with digital ... moreequipment. Rotation rate is proportional to water velocity. The meter measures streamflow velocities from 0.1 to 25 feet per second(0.03 to 7.6 meters per second) Users suspend the meter by a wading rod while wading a stream. Use a Pygmy Current Meter for shallow. Slow, wading survey applications.

Vintage Pygmy Water Current Flow Meter Hydrological Equipment Scientific / Case
Here is a very nice vintage Pygmy water current flow meter. Comes with nice dovetailed wooden box. Pygmy meter is in excellent nice condition. Is mounted to a nice all brass plate base. The top of the wood box has Scientific Instrument Co. Inc Milwaukee 12 Wisconsin. There are no markings on the meter itself but it looks very much life a Gurley Price 625F or a USGS model 6205. The Pygmy water current meter is used for stream flow measurements in shallow streams. Flumes and small channels. A rating scale is attached to the inside top of the wood box which says velocity in feet per second equals 1 x revolutions per second and Velocity in meters per second equals 0.30 x revolutions per second. Has what I think is called an extra pivot in one of the holes in the box. Beautiful little Pygmy water current flow meter.
