Gorgeous 1907 Keuffel& Esser wye level with Keuffel and Esser tripod. As complete as you're likely to find. Includes level. Lens cap, mahogany box with leather strap, lens shade, brass plumb bob, adjustment tools, instruction booklet. Also original K&E tripod with metal clad feet, wooden cap to protect screw mount. Serial number dates instrument to 1907. Instrument is complete and functional to the best of my knowledge. Optics are clear and bright, all knobs turn and operate. Wear consistent with 100-plus years of careful use: scratches and finish wear. All superficial, no dents or damage. The loop on the strap that would hold extra length past the buckle is broken, but the main strap looks original and still bears the weight of the box and instrument fine. There are brass tack heads or"feet" on the bottom of the box, ... moreone of the four is missing. All in all a remarkably complete and intact set of American engineering history. It is in good condition but has slight damage to the tail and a rusting hook. It is still mounted on it's original card. Although not perfect. These were quite brittle and extremely hard to come by on card. Rarely seen for sale and highly desirable for the vintage tackle and lure collector. 68. YOUNG& SONS Large Brass Wye Level# 7365 Old Technology Associates Presents Jonathan Sissons of London invented the wye level in the 1720s. 100 years later in Philadelphia. William Young, after serving an apprenticeship with Thomas Whitney, began what grew to become Young& Sons, a maker of mathematical and later fine surveying instruments. I do not know how to date this instrument, but the serial number, 7365 which is stamped on the box and hand engraved on the base, would seem to indicate an early, perhaps mid-1800s piece. The box is beat up but very sturdy. It measures 23" by 8" and is 12" tall. The base and level appear to be complete, noting a missing piece as shown in the last photo. I think this missing piece may be causing the optics to appear like an eclipse. If the eye piece is a clock face, then light shows ... morein the 3 or 4 o'clock area and the rest is dark. Also note the scale above the bubble level(which is complete and functioning) is held on by wire, perhaps missing the two screws. The main focus works very smoothly and the lens moves 2 3/8" Some TLC and a good cleaning would make this all brass level a stunning bookcase piece. Or perhaps even a fine working instrument. But most sttractive, giving a detailed picture of the Country at the start of the 17th century. Hardy"The Wye" 12' 6" 9 Split Bamboo Fly Rod A 3 section rod with spare top section and 12'6" long for a#9 weight line. Rod number is H58718 dating to 1964. Made from Pallokona split bamboo with crimson tyings. Agatipee butt ring. Fullopen bridge intermediates and agatipe end rings. Complete with Hardy bag. In good condition. Sections are straight and correct length however spare top section is 3/4" short. Tight joints. Tyings and varnish are sound. Some rings/tyings look to have been replaced. Schedule 40 4" Double wye and Elbows
