Vintage Victorian Cast Iron Heat Vent Cover Grate Register with Louvers, NICE!
Nice Victorian cast iron floor grille heat grate register with louvers from an old house in Maryland. This wonderful antique heat duct register includes the ornate cover plate and a three-louver assembly underneath. This piece has a stunningly beautiful pattern on the cast iron cover and the three louvers are in good working order controlled by thumb-wheel-type mechanism. The top of the grille measures 11.5 inches long by a little over 9.5 inches wide. From the front to back with open louvers. It measures three inches. The grille needs a floor opening of about 9 and 6/16 inches by 7 and 7/16 inches. The unit has no damage but has some rust and the paint is peeling. With just a little sanding and paint it will be a beautiful addition to your home.

Up for sale is a cast iron floor/wall grate for a heating and ventilation system. It could also be used as a decorative piece. The rear of the grate consists of five louvers and is designed to be recessed into a 10 by 14 inch opening. The face of the grate is slightly larger and spans a total area of 12 by 16 inches. There is a screw hole in each corner of the face for securing it to the floor or wall. Please note that this grate does not sit flush on its mounting surface. Instead. It protrudes about 1 inch. Mounted on a floor, it could thus pose a tripping hazard, or an obstruction to certain types of furniture, so consider your application before bidding. This grate was recently stripped of many layers of paint and repainted in a low-gloss black. It has a very nice look. The louvers function smoothly and quietly. This is a large and pretty old cast iron floor register. This decorative top is larger than most. At 15 13/16 inches by 11 7/8 inches, and it fits a 14 inch by 10 inch rectangular opening. This antique register is a decorative way to cover the heat vents in your home. The louvers open and close easily with the thumb wheel. Some of the black finish has worn off, especially around the edges. There is rust where the finish is missing. The louvres are rusty but still solid. There are some small spots of white paint.

The top measures 12" by 14" The bottom or insert is 9 1/2" by 11 1/2" by 2 1/2" deep. The louvers work nicely with the thumb control although there appears to be a small screw missing from the thumb control. The black paint is a bit scuffed in places but the vent is in very nice condition for its age. Many years ago, this was in the floor of an upstairs bedroom in the home of my parents as the only heat source for the second floor- the heat rising through that vent from the wood stove was it. This is a beautiful ornately patterned 2-piece cast iron floor grate or register with working louvers. Inner piece measures about 12 x 9 inches. And the outer dimensions of the outer frame are about 14 by 11 inches, frame itself is about 2 inches wide) The inner unit fits snugly into the outer frame and seems to rest in place by its own weight. I don't see any cracks or breaks in any of the unit. A great piece of architectural salvage that will look good in your restored Victorian!
