this is an exquisite rare antique cut crystal and a silver plated brass desk top inkwell. from the late 1800's the base is made from a very thick cut crystal and has a groove in the front to hold a single pen. the top is a silver plated brass that has brass shining through from ware and age and gives it a wonderful aged look. it opens and closes on a hinge in the back and locks with a clasp mechanism in the front. it measures 3 3/4 x 3 inches by 2 1/2 inches tall. wonderful piece. Antique Flat top Mahogany Desk with Plate Glass Top
Purchase this desk about 20 years ago. I am not sure how old it is if I guessed I would think maybe the 1920's or 30's but I really don't know. It was refinished years ago. Has stain in some of the drawers. Finish isn't in bad shape needs some polishing and clean up. A few of the drawers are swollen. Will probably be okay if it is stored in a heated area. It is in a dry but cold garage at this point. A few of the slides need to be realigned and fastened down. I think it is Maghony and it has burled veneer flame front drawers. The center handles are lion heads. some of the carving is off but I may have some of the pieces. Has a custom made plate glass top. PICK UP ONLY/ NO SHIPMENT OR DELIVERY. It keeps good time.it seems to run about 1 1/2(1.5) minutes fast per day. The alarm clock rings on time. There is some surface wear to the gold plating and a gold ball is missing from the top. It's a decorative item. So it doesn't disturb the stability or integrity of the clock. The watch expert had a look at it and found it in fine condition. I didn't have it cleaned. But is also great as a desk piece for holding a pencil or something. It seems to be made of two different types of wood. But I do not know which types they are. The Haiti piece is glued to ... morethe base, and you can see some of the glue in the back. The flag has a 10 7/8" long stick. And the flag itself measures 6" by 4" There really isn't anything wrong with this piece. It has a natural flaw in the corner of the wood in the back. And maybe some slight wear. Very Nice Quality c1890 Silver Plated Desk Burner and Spill Holder. This I think this would have been used for heating the wax for seals. You would light the central burner and the two outer spill vases would contain a combination of wax sticks and tapers etc. The central burner would be filled with a paraffin type of liquid and then you would light the wick which would give off a continuous flame. Magnificent Figural Ram's Horn & Silver Plate Desk Set / Inkstand - 1885
A fabulous and grand inkstand standing on a solid English Oak base. The twisted Ram's horns form the bodies of the Dolphins with fabulous electo-plated fittings creating the heads and tails. There is a bell between the two tails. Complete with hammer that sits on a hammer stand to the front of the base; in front of this, there is a pen rest sculptured out of the Oak. Two inkwells sit within their custom holders, original Victorian glass with silver plated mounted collars and hinged lids. One of the Dolphins is lucky enough to have been impressed with the English Design Registration Number for the year 1885. There is also the original presentation plaque, engraved for the year 1886. The face portrait of the soviet leader was etched on a metal material that has a reflective glass side to it. The wall plaque or desktop plate is quite heavy(820 grams) and is 8" round in diameter. The provenance of this piece is that it was presented to my father in law. Who was a Canadian communist writer. The full name and details are on the reverse side as well as the date of May 60 when this piece was given. Condition: good vintage pre-owned condition. There are numerous small surface scratches on the glass mirror which can be seen slightly in the photograph. There are two areas of up and down surface scratches and are both to the right of Lenin's ... moreear(approx. 1" in length 1/2" wide. 1/2" in length 1/4" wide) The reverse side of the glass mirror has numerous scratches. There is discoloration marks to the reverse side of the glass. Primarily at the bottom. An adhesive strip remains on the reverse side which is what was used to hang the Lenin Etching portrait on the wall. Good quality 2 bottle inkstand; the rectangular stand with pen, reservoir having cast shell border and stood on 4 ball feet. The 2 cut glass bottles, having silver plated lids and collars. This is a very fine Inkstand. Particularly well made, heavy for size. I always worked on the basis that the trumpet mark on Dixon pieces came in about 1885. Which I had, to refresh to confirm as my first thoughts were that the piece dated about 1850 because, of the good construction and quality in silvering. 2 Vintage oak desk name plate holders master craftsman router stain
Up for auction is 2 old oak desk name plates that were made by a master carpenter in the 40's or 50's. They came from an old shutdown cabinet makers barn. They are beautifully stained and finished in some type of polyurethane. The measure 10 1/4" x 3 3/4" x 2 5/8" deep. Would make a beautiful gift for even the highest executive. They are nicely routered and I see no flaws. The felt on the bottom is a little faded(see pic) I have 6 more of these if you need more. Just let me know. These are beautifully done. The plate is 10" There are no chips. Cracks or crazing. The gold edging appears to be in very nice condition. There is slight staining on the back where a plate holder used to be. Most likely could be scrubbed off but I'm not going to try it. visible as the stain in the lettering. The front of the plate reads Hillsboro Centennial 1876-1976 Washington County Historical Society. The photo is of an old desk covered in vintage oil lamps, clocks, a phonograph and various odds and ends. The description on the rear of the plate reads'One of the many artifacts donated by Albert Tozier in the 1920's. He said it was used in the warehouse of John McLoughlin at Champoeg. This is a heavy brass desk name plate which.measures 11 3/4" x 2 1/2" The brass plate is 1/4" thick and is mounted on a walnut trianglular base which is 1 1/2" thick on the bottom(with a velvet bottom lining so it doesn't scratch the desk) and it is then shaped to a semi-point at the top of the brass plate. It is in great shape and looks prestigous- I had it on my(Bank) desk for many years. It is probably more than 70 years old
