For your consideration is an Antique Hotchkiss heavy duty Stapler. Designed and patented by Eli Hubbell Hotchkiss of New York. 1896. This piece of office equipment has retained its original black enamel at the handle and base. The original wood mount is also present which is very often missing. It is in working condition with some staples left. You can see the staples through the window on the right side. Other than some light rust and loss of enamel there is no structural damage. This listing is for a very interesting item. A used but working vintage Bates Model C wire-feed stapler. It doesn't use standard staples, but has a wire spool that feeds thin wire into a chute, and cuts and forms the staples. This item shows lots of wear, but is in perfect working condition, and has what looks like lots of wire left on the spool. Obviously an item for collectors– not for regular use. There are some scratches and some chips. Nothing major. It is in excellent working condition. These Swinglines 27 always seem to last forever. The bottom of the stapler states Long Island City, New York. There is some pitting on the bottom piece of metal which allows the stapler to open, however it opens very easily and overall this is one of the nicest 27's I've seen. It has some rusting around the steel parts and some chipping on the edges. I am unsure of the actual age of the stapler. But it is likely midcentury late 1950's. It has the Swingline logo in several places and the company established the corporate Swingline name in 1956. However, I have seen other references to the stapler being from the 1940's, and the patent was approved in 1938. There are still some staples inside. And it does seem to push down just fine, but none of the staples come out. I don't know if some are stuck, or what could be the problem. It shows a little wear, but is in otherwise good condition. This item was manufactured sometime from 1942-1958 in Chicago IL USA by Ace Fastener Co. This piece has an Art Deco look consisting of an all chrome finish with a handsome black plastic top cover. The base has rubber protectors to prevent scratching of the desktop. This hefty stapler weighs over a pound and has a nice quality construction that you no longer see anymore. It handles the heaviest papers with ease. There's an adjustable switch which allows you to choose either inward or outward stapling. This piece works well and is in very nice cosmetic conditon in and out. There's a small dent on the bottom of the base near the rear rubber protector that isn't very noticable. This stapler will ... moresurely look great on your desktop and may perhaps appear to be intimidating enough to make other people not want to use it. No staples are included but they are available at the big office supply stores. The stapler measures about 11 1/2" long. 3" wide, and 7" tall, and weighs about 2 lbs. It has no dents. Gouges, rust, or cracks. But has some scratches and nicks. The tan and brown painted finish is excellent.
