WWII Era german Railroad Car Restroom Porcelain Enamel Sign Plaque From the effects of a US GI who served in WWII. Presumed to be"liberated" during that time as a souvenir. Porcelain enamel black raised lettering on a white background on cast iron. Oval shape with mounting flanges at each side. Translation: It is requested that you do not use the restroom while the train is stopped at a station. Marks: D.i. is inscribed into the center back. Condition: Apparently roughly removed from its mounting. That is the only thing that would explain the loss of enamel at the flanges and into the body of the sign. Very good condition. Paint color is very strong. Minor paint loss here and there and a couple very tight cracks coming from the screw holes. Nothing detracts from these signs.
