Which really gives it a great vintage/anitique look and feel. The casting of this mark was by the well know iron works of John Wright for the Historic Charleston Foundation. This mark is rare and not often seen for sale. This would make an excellent addition for any collector of firefighting or insurance memorabilia. American insurance company's fire marks were placed on the exterior of a house and were intended to discourage malicious arson by showing that the owner would not greatly suffer if the building were destroyed. This listing is for one reproduction oval cast fire mark representing the Associated Firemens Insurance Company of Baltimore. Maryland first issued in 1848. The plaque depicts a fireman running with a flaming torch while blowing into a signal trumpet. The finish is black with bright colored. Painted details. The front image is raised and shows no rust. The image does have a few light scrapes and couple of small chips. The back of the plaque is concave to the front image with light scuffing. It has the reproduction stamp that reads"ASSOCIATED FIREMENS INSURANCE CO. 1848" on the left hand side. The stamping of the right hand side is not as clear to read. This is a rare brass sign for the Mechanics And Traders Insurance Company that operated in New Orleans. Louisiana from 1869 to 1933. The frame is new. With frame, the size is 27.5 x 15.5 inches. The sign itself is described in the book Signs of Insurance as follows: Brass. 12 x 24 inches. Etched brass"MECHANICS/ And TRADERS/ INSURANCE Co. of NEW ORLEANS" company emblem, left: etched black monogram on brass background, brass"Organized 1869" in circular border stylized as belt. Thin brass and etched black borders with corner details, etched black background. It measures 12 inches in diameter(across) and is heavy at 8 pounds 10 ounces. It was the plaque or sign that hung on a wall to let depositors know that their deposits were insured. In this case, for $20,000. In 1969 banks and savings and loan companies increased insurance of deposits from $10,000 to $20,000 so this plaque would be of that era. Nationwide Insurance Thermometer Up for auction is a vintage Nationwide Insurance Thermometer. This thermometer is guaranteed vintage as it belonged to a long time insurance salesman. Thermometer is in working condition and does keep temperature. The bubble face is in good condition with no cracks or chips or deep scratches. Some surface scuffs on the surface of the bubble. Also. Inside the bubble on the bottom of the thermometer, is some dust or debris. Looks like it could be easily cleaned out- but I am not going to attempt. Check out photographs closely for best description. Backside of thermometer is a bit discolored. I could not find out what this sign is for. It might be a generic sign for insurance companies that sold insurance for people's houses. Or there might have been a company with this name. Any help would be appreciated. All signs are Buy It Now at $125. Shipping is 15, regardless of size. A low price will take this sign that is about 9.5"xx6" It looked like wood but I think that it is all molded. At least on the back it has an interesting attachment clasp on top and it is in good general condition. All offers are considered.
