Rare Antique Weis Barrister Bookcase With Fold Out Desk And Drawers
Up for sale is this antique Weis Slide Door barrister style bookcase. With 2 bookcase sections, 2 drawer sections, a fold out desk section, along with the top and base. This will require refinishing as it shows quite a bit of wear. I can't quite figure out how the wear to the sides was caused, it looked like moisture damage, but there is no lift or softness in those areas and the white is actually paint, so the best I can figure is that those spots may have been up against a radiator, hard to say for sure. It is also missing one set of the glass sliding doors. It measures about 56 1/4" tall, 34 1/8" across, and 10 7/8" deep, the base is 12 1/4" deep. Due to how the lips overlap and join together, I believe this piece will only stack as shown. Local pick up. Or perhaps delivery within a couple hundred miles can be worked ... moreout for a fee.

This is a quartersawn oak top that I believe fits a Globe Wernicke stacking barrister bookcase. There is no label. It measures aprox. 33 3/4" wide x 11 1/4" deep on the bottom x 12" deep on top x 3 1/4" high. It has a burn mark on top, not real deep, otherwise it is in good condition. This is a solid Mahogany Barrister Bookcase. It is 4 stack high and each section lifts up and comes apart. Every section has bevelled glass.The top glass is leaded which is very unusual. Desirable and adds a lot of character. This is a high quality piece, made with solid mahogany. Made with alot of expertise and attention to details similar to the 100 year old, well made pieces. I think the finish is fumed oak and is a lovely mission look. 55 inches tall. 11 inches deep and 34 inches wide. 4 sections with a seperate top and bottom. Bottom has a nice drawer. Original finish. This unit measures 47 ½” high. 34” wide and 11” deep(The top is 12 1/8” deep) Labels in each section read, top to bottom, 108-299 ½, 110-299, D10 ¼-299, 10 ¼-299. These are from my mother’s estate and are in very good condition– probably close to 100 years old, obviously there may be a very minor scuff or nick– but not many. All have the original wavy glass and brass knobs. Metal sidebands are naturally worn, and have a nice uniform patina. The wood has a wonderful patina also. This is a pretty quartered quarter sawn oak barrister bookcase. Sometimes called a lawyers bookcase or stacked bookcase. A graduated style with three different heights for each stack; more versatile and functional piece. Each of the stacks have original leaded glass in perfect condition. We have refinished this piece and it has a smooth authentic finish. Note the drawer in the base. The original metal'leopard' side bands, original brass pulls, and the beading on the underside of the top. This piece was manufactured by the Macey Co of Grand Rapids, MI(a competitor of Globe Wernicke) Size of the interior of the units is 9.5 deep and 32.0 wide. Up for sale is this barrister bookcase base and top. There is no label so I don't know the precise maker. The base is missing its bottom panel. There is some veneer loss/damage to the top along with other wear and tear, so please know that these are a refinishing project. The top measures about 34" across and 12" wide including the lip on the very top. The base is about 12 1/2" wide including the lip at the very bottom, and 34" across. Lundstrom Book cases- Circa 1926. Three tops with original brass plate. Three bottoms and 13 individual book cases- configure bookcases as you please. Each bookcase is 13" x 34" Old wavy glass. Door are in really good shape. Solid wood. Light repairs needed on side of a couple of the book cases but does not compromise the integrity. Backs of all the bookcases appear original except for two. Up for auction is a what I believe is a Weis Barrister Bookcase desk organizer. This organizer is 33"10/16" long x 13.5" tall and 11" deep. Desk organizer is in fantastic shape except for a sliver of wood missing from the back bottom(pictured) A piece of period molding is easily added to the back on both sides to hide the defect. Easy to make a campaign desk or wall desk out of this beautiful piece with some front legs(screw desk to wall. So all you need are two from legs) or add a pair of cast iron and or Oak corbels to support the desk. In any case this will be a beautiful desk when you complete. A good. What I believe is a GLOBE WERNICKE 4 sectional Oak stacking BARRISTER BOOKCASE. In fair CONDITION. I received this note from a viewer: This is an early stack of the Globe Wernicke Company as evidenced by the locking tab on the top.The style of side bands, the early non recessed sides on the top itself. And the closure mechanism. So it IS a GLOBE WERNICKE not a possible one. It is also in the D series line. Most likely a 198 series. I purchased it in 1995 and used it to safely house my rare book collection for almost 20 years. I believe it was refinished before I purchased it. Not the best job done… the refinisher got some glue on the glass of one of the 10” and the 14” unit. I believe it could be razor bladed off. but it never bothered me for what i was using it for. Ideal if you already have one of these bookcase. And want to add ... moremore units. I have seen individual units like these on eBay for $100-150. so, this is a bargin. I am moving and need to find it a good home. But I can always store it until I find the right price. Comes easily apart for a total of 5 pieces. Label but Gunn Furniture Company was best known for using the side slide mechanism(which this one has) for the doors rather than the scissor type. Beautiful quarter sawn oak case with 3 stacks and original wavy glass. The top 2 cases are 11 inches high able to hold books 8 1/2 inches high. I recently bought a number of barristers. This one is absolutely gorgeous. It is not pure quartersawn oak. But shows many quarter sawn pieces. This is a mission styled bookcase which was originally made for the government nearly 75 years ago. It shows some signs of its age. But is still a strong, beautiful, piece of furniture. The base labels are mostly missing. The base is a catalog number 3313-B-10 The finish label that is mostly gone has no usable information. But the coloring matches finish 1938 Special Treasury. The 5 bookcase sections are labelled. There is a finish label that says: FINISH NUMBER 1938 SPECIAL TREASURY There is also a style label that says: CATALOG NUMBER 3313-B. G. The doors glide smoothly while opening& closing. If you put very heavy things on the top it does put some pressure on the hinge part that makes the doors open& close which makes it harder to open& close. Antique Lawyer Barrister Bookcase in figured English Oak
Greetings from Camden. Maine. This is an antique barristers bookcase in beautiful shape. It is very old but in great shape with a lovely, consistent semi-gloss finish on bright, heavily figured, solid-wood English oak cabinetry. The workmanship is excellent. This is the piece you want. It's functional, warm, and makes a tall, distinguished statement wherever it is situated. I don't know the exact vintage but am thinking early 20th century. Glass all intact. Hinge-work, articulated armatures for lifting and stowing panel windows is all functional. Even the tiny pulls are figured oak. Fortunately, this antique is completely modular/ stacking(with small dowels for registration at each tier) and can be shipped anywhere in lower 48 safely in six or seven pieces. Even the cornice and base with two drawers are structurally separate enabling ... moreeasy mobility, set-up, relocation, etc. Dimensions are: 54" wide, 12" deep, 17" deep at base portion(floor level) approx 67" tall.
