Very cool antique cabinet. I do not know that the original purpose was for this. But it has a lot of potential for modern use. It originally had a glass pane over the door. The glass is gone, but it was repurposed with chicken wire and beads giving it a very interesting look. Additionally, it was painted with a white, distressed paint in a shabby chic style. Very nice condition with some rubbing of paint and a dent in the back. So many possibilities. Nice for a kitchen, bathroom, lady's/girl's room or any living space. Antique Rice's Seeds General Store Wooden Display Box With Wire Shelves 1800s
This Rice's Seed box/display case is rare; I've only seen one other and that was about a year ago in Country Living Magazine. The magazine actually described it as a salesman's sample box. They probably know a lot more about it than I do. But it seems awfully heavy and large for someone to be lugging around, and with the attached shelves to hold the seed packets it appears likely to me that it could have been a general store display box. I date this to the mid to late 1800s. The Rice Seed Co. began selling seeds from its headquarters in Cambridge. NY in the 1860s, the salesmen traveling in horses and buggies. The case measures 25" high X 23" wide. It is wider at the base and tapers up at the top. There are wire shelves in which to display the seeds. The paper label at the top reads Rice's Seeds and beneath it in ... moresmaller letters: Buy Fresh Seed in Dated Packets. Rice's are dated. There is some paperwork on the wood under one of the shelves that may be a purchase order or something of the kind but I can't tell for certain. The hinged cover lifts up and there are three sturdy. Intact hinges across the top. There are some tears in the label but it is completely readable. The wood has deteriorated quite badly in a few places and is heavily nicked and scratched. It has a wonderful patina. The shelves. Although a little bent here and there, are in fine condition and firmly attached. Please view the photos carefully and understand this is an antique piece with a lot of wear and character. It is being sold as is. I cannot guarantee that it has not been exposed to odors: smoking. These are antique stone-looking wall shelves made from resin. The are 9.25" wide x 7.5" tall x 4.5" deep. They have been painted with chalk paints and waxed with a soft wax. The base coat was a dark charcoal. The top coat is a light ivory. I wiped away some of the ivory color to bring out the charcoal underneath and to show off the details on these shelves. This auction is for a nice& unique Two(2) Tier Tea Cart or Tea Trolley from England that has"swing out" shelves on each side of the top shelf. I have never seen a cart with this feature. This is a well made cart. The shelves. Frame and braces are made out of Solid Oak, there is no veneer in this cart. Both the top shelf and bottom shelf are bordered on three sides with one side left open to slide things in and out more easily. Both shelves has pretty wavy cut shelf supports or braces on the front of each shelf. It has very pretty turned post legs. The shelves are attached to the frame with the older flat head screws instead of being glued& block like most which is a real sign of quality by the maker. It is in overall good condition and has very nice eye appeal. It still rolls around well and all four wheels are still with ... moreit. It's 24" X 15 1/4" and about 26 1/8" tall overall.
