Angostura bitters bottle w/beautiful sterling silver 950 overlay in bamboo motif
This is a beautiful little Angostura bitters bottle that has been overlaid in a bamboo motif done in sterling silver(950) The neck of the bottle as well as the pourer and footrim are also overlaid in sterling. The pourer is attached to a cork stopper. Overall height is 4.25" This is completely hand wrought and is just lovely. The base is stamped: Sterling 950" and an identifying number that appears to be the original owner's SSN is also etched into the base. I believe it comes from Japan in the 1950's. Important VICTORIAN Solid Silver ANGOSTURA BITTERS JUG Hallmark 1840 Sterling NR Gorgeous Design- James Dixon& Son- 5 troy- UNUSUAL This is a really lovely EARLY VICTORIAN solid sterling silver small lidded jug which was made in Sheffield. England in 1840 by the illustrious silversmiths, James Dixon& Son at their Cornish Place workshops. This wonderful jug is in a gorgeous fluted baluster shape. Is finished with a generous spout which has a hinged lid finished with a finial formed in the letter A, has a stunning capped double scroll handle and is raised on a pedestal base. It is NOT in engraved. The jug measures 2 1/8" in diameter, 3 5/8" across from handle to lip and stands 4 7/8" tall. It is VERY substantial- it weighs 142.5 grams- well over 4 1/2 troy oz. It is an early Angostura Bitters jug- first imported to England ... morein the early 1830's. The jug is in SUPERB condition with less than the usual light surface scratching and NO dents. Distortion, repairs or splits- just a few dings and a little compression to the base. It is hallmarked D*S, lion passant(sterling silver assay mark) Victoria duty mark, u and crown showing that it was hallmarked in Sheffield in 1840. I have shown the hallmark so that you can make up your own mind. A really lovely and very rare VICTORIAN jug from exceptional silversmiths in superb condition after almost 175 years as you can see from the photograph- at a VERY low start and NO RESERVE- this is the first jug like this that I've had the privilege to sell! This is a nice old unusual aluminium cocktail shaker standing 8.3 inches in height.It is etched on the front ANGOSTURA BITTERS.The shaker has a pull off lid that doubles as a measure.It also has a further pull off part that has an integral lemon squeezer.That when turned upside down it sits on the shaker whilst the fruit is squeezed into the shaker.It probably dates to the mid 1900s.It is in pretty decent condition and there are no makers marks. This nice old unusual cocktail shaker would grace any collection or sit very well in any period or contemporary setting. angostura bitters: Dr Spiegels Amargo Salvadore - scarce possibly from Albany NY
D r SPIEGEL'S AMARGO SALVADORE yellowish green; hand blown in a mold(possibly three piece) with a tooled top; approx 8 1/2" ht. This is probably an angostura type of bitters This particular bottle was found with another one in the old"Stockade" area of Schenectady. I have not seen another so it may be quite scarce. Certainly more scarce than the Dr Siegert bottles. There was a Dr Spiegel in Albany who sold the Dr Jones Liniment bottle with the beaver embossed on the front and other products. Whether this could be the same Dr Spiegel is probably a good question. Especially given where they were found. The condition is very good for being dug with no chips. Cracks but it does have patches of stain on it, some wear and light scratches, there is one more serious scuff/scratch on the lower portion down below the the letter A ... morein Amargo; has some light interior stain some of which is bluish like ink. The bottle is slightly out of round and has a slight kickup in the base. The bottle has some nice whittle and displays very nicely. Great looking black glass with hundreds of seed bubbles. Great shape with no cracks or chips. It stands 8 and 1/4 inch tall by 2 and 1/2 inches wide. Speaking to Gerard Besson from the company that currently produces these bitters finds that he suggests the bottle is from the 1860's. It has some scratches and high point wear as shown in the photos. A SHARP LOOKING BITTERS BOTTLE. Buyer to pay for 2 lbs priority postage. Antique Dr. JGB Siegert & Hijos Angostura Bitters Olive Green Bottle Mold Blown
This Dr. JGB Siegert& Hijos olive yellowish green colored. Round bitters bottle stands just over 8 inches tall. In good condition and without any chips. Cracks, etc. Glass is clear and bright. This bottle has great color to it. Evidence of air bubble thoughout. It has a double collared top. Side seams extend to top of bottom collar. But not onto the top collar. Stretched neck shows elongated air bubble. Has DR. J.G.B. SIEGERT& HIJOS around the shoulder and also around the bottom. Dr. Johann Gottlieb Benjaman Siegert originally moved to Venezuela to fight with Simon Bolivar in the battle for freedom from the Spanish. He was appointed surgeon general and eventually came up with his Angostura Aromatic Bitters. He died in 1870 but his sons continued the operation. I have had this bottle for over 35 years.
