You are bidding on a vintage Ludwig hoop-mounted cymbal arm/ cymbal stand. With no reserve. The cymbal arm came off a mid-50s Slingerland kit I bought a couple of years ago. But the mark clearly says"Ludwig" see photo) I tried to take a photo from every conceivable angle so you could see what you're bidding on. As far as I can tell. The holder is nickel plated, intact and mechanically sound. I can't say for certain if all the parts are original, or if they even orginally went together. This is just how it was presented to me. But look at the photo with the washer and the felts: you can see a ring on the cymbal arm(on the left) where the plating has been worn away. That ring matches exactly the bottom of the removable cymbal seat, making me think at least those two parts have been used together for a while. There is rusting ... moreon this piece. This was most likely in an officer's tent and ta ken from tent to tent. Comes apart in two pieces easily. Made of wood which look like walnut a nd metal. Wood is a tight grain(see pics) The metal is steel where the 3 arms come down at the bottom to make a stable base. There is a latch to lock it in place. At the top there are 4 arms also with a latch or prong to secure it into place. The metal brackets are aluminum as the magnet doesn't stick to it. Also the metal collar where the steel spindles are secured in are also aluminum. All the paint i s not there. There is still some black paint left. Back in the days when everyone used quill pens and fountain pens the one thing that could be found on every office or writing desk was an ink blotter. Ink blotters were usually made of a soft absorbent paper formed into a card and were used to dry up excess ink. With the invention of ballpoint pen in the 1950s. Ink blotters disappeared from the average office desk. Today, these vintage blotters, made in the 1930s and 1940s, are very highly prized and sought after collectibles. C1500-1520 original HALBARD pole arm - Germany ?
An 100% genuine and original halbard pole arm head of European manufacture most probably German from the style. It is in good solid condition. The metal is not brittle and it has recently had a clean. It is constructed from several pieces of steel hammer welded together. The socket is well formed, the socketed types of staff weapon are in general earlier than the types with metal strengthening straps that extend down the shaft. The spear blade is complete with no loss to the tip, it is of diamond section construction which was stronger than a flat blade. This was the standard infantry type weapon of the late c14th/15th, processional halbards tended to be decorated, this is plain and is purely a fighting weapon for killing with not an ornament. This is an early form, i would put a date on it at somewhere around 1500-1520 maybe even a few years ... moreolder. The total length is a fraction over 20 inches so its also a large size example. Original designed was by Gerrit Thomas Rietveld(1888– 1964) Architect and furniture designer. Born in Utrecht, The Netherlands. He started as a worker. Opening his own cabinet-making workshop in Utrecht in 1911. After studying architecture. He began to design his own furniture. Notably the‘red-and-blue’ chair(1918) exhibiting the rectilinear quality and use of color associated with the De Stijl movement. All dimensions match the original chair. The chair is at least 20 years old since I had it for at least that long. It has been well kept rarely sat on. All joints are solid. All colors are vibrant and solid not faded. There are some scuff and might need touch ups in certain areas(see pictures) I rather leave it up ... moreto the next owner to decide to restore to gallery quality. I am an architect and have been fan of this chair all of my life. It originally was designed to be in front of a black wall so it would give the impression that the chair was floating since the black lines would disappear in the background.
